Chapter thirteen

Gianna

One week later…

This past week has been filled with highs and lows.

Highs because I got to speak with Dimitri every single day.

I had come to care about him a lot during my time in New Orleans, and even more since I came back to Houston.

I couldn’t wait to see him again next weekend.

Final exams were next week, and I was looking forward to heading to my hometown for the summer.

Of course, things were going to be different without my grandmother around, but at least I’d be surrounded by people who loved and cared about me. Professor Alexander was still calling and texting me like crazy, but I had not been responding to any of his attempts at conversation.

I was sitting with Rozenette and Tamika and we started talking about Professor Alexander.

“So, is there anything going on between you and the professor?” Rozenette asked.

“Oh God, no!” I shrieked and hoped that they bought my lie.

“Girl bye! Everyone can see that there is something going on between you two,” Tamika said.

“Oh wow! Not you too,” I said as I cast my gaze in Tamika’s direction.

“You don’t think we see the way he looks at you?” Rozenette said.

“That’s his business! Whatever he feels has nothing to do with my feelings! I have a man!” I declared.

“Well, I’m glad you aren’t messing with him…” Rozenette said.

“Why is that?”

Her and Tamika gave each other funny glances which made me feel like I was missing something.

“What are you ladies hiding?” I asked.

“I don’t know if we should be discussing this with you,” Tamika said. “I’m not sure how much we can trust you.”

“I’m not sure where this is going, but you can trust me just like I can trust you.” Something told me that whatever they were about to tell me was big, and I definitely wanted to know about it.

“Well, the truth is I have a baby,” Rozenette said.

“Oh wow! I didn’t know.”

“Yea, she’s almost one.” She opened her phone and showed me a picture of her little girl.

“She’s adorable,” I said. She was a cutie who looked almost like… couldn’t be. I turned my attention to Rozenette who clearly knew what I was thinking.

“Yea, she’s Jonas’ baby,” she confirmed.

“Wow! So, Professor Alexander is your baby’s father?” I asked.

“Yes, but let him tell it, she isn’t his.”

“Damn! He isn’t claiming your daughter?” I questioned.

“Well, he is but not publicly. He’ll never come out and tell anyone she is his daughter. If I hadn’t threatened to go to the university about our affair and my pregnancy, he never would’ve admitted that he was her daddy,” Rozenette said.

“That’s sad! I can’t stand his ass!” Tamika fumed.

“Do you know he has a wife?” I asked.

“Yea, I found out about her during our affair. I don’t understand why he doesn’t wear a wedding ring! There are no pictures of him and his wife anywhere in his office or his classroom or his cousin’s house! What kind of man lies about being married?” Rozenette asked.

“Well, technically, he didn’t lie. He just omitted that fact, probably to keep sleeping with his students. I wonder how many there have been,” Tamika pondered.

“I’m not sure, but I certainly can’t come out and say anything about us,” Rozenette said.

“What? Why not?” I asked.

“I had to sign a non- disclosure agreement once I proved that my daughter was his. He gave me twenty- five thousand dollars to keep my mouth shut, so I did.”

“Wow! Paying you to keep his baby a secret. What kind of man does shit like that?” Tamika asked.

I had no idea that Jonas was this kind of man. Thank God, I made him strap up or else I’d be another one of his baby mamas. Like, he had a baby with Rozenette, got his wife pregnant and possibly that student who busted in his office that day!

What kind of creep had I been messing with? What kind of person had the university hired to teach students? Then he was the professor of anatomy, so no wonder he wanted to teach that class. I wondered if the university would be interested in knowing they hired a predator to teach on their campus.

“Earth to Gianna! Come in Gianna!” Tamika said as she snapped her fingers.

I shook my head to snap out of my reverie. “Sorry, what?”

“What are your plans for the summer? Are you staying on campus or going home?” Tamika asked.

“I told you I have a man waiting for me back home. I’m going home,” I responded.

“You’re serious about that man huh?”

“Very serious. Oh well, I gotta get to my next class.”

“We’ll talk later girl,” Rozenette said as we all headed to our class.

I couldn’t believe all that I found out today about Professor Alexander. I thought I was special. He said he was falling in love with me and even though I didn’t feel the same way, I believed his ass. He had used me like he had done every other female student he slept with on this campus!

University faculty members fraternizing with students were against university policy. I wondered why Jonas was even allowed to still work here with all the students he had bedded. He needed to be fired and unable to ever secure a job at a university ever again.

After I was done with my classes, I couldn’t wait to get back to my room so I could talk to Dimitri. He was coming to Houston to visit me this weekend. We couldn’t wait another week to see each other.

“Hey babe,” he answered with a huge smile.

“Hey yourself. Are you on your way?” I asked.

“I actually am. I’m two hours away and can’t wait to see you. I miss you so much babe.”

“I miss you too. I’ve been thinking about you all day. I can’t wait to be in your arms again.”

“That’s exactly what I’m thinking. Do you have any assignments to do this weekend? Because I don’t want you to not be able to complete them.”

“I don’t have any assignments due next week because of finals. All I have to do is study,” I said.

“Well, I will definitely help you with your anatomy studies,” he suggested.

“Oh, hell yea! I am looking forward to that.”

“Me too.”

“Well, I’ll come by and scoop you up in a couple of hours,” he said.

“Or since you’ve been driving all afternoon, I can just meet you at the hotel,” I suggested.

“No, I’m gonna come get you. I’ll see you soon.”

“Okay, can’t wait.”

After we ended the call, I grabbed some clothes, a towel and my soap and headed to the bathroom. I turned the water on in the shower and stepped under it. The water felt really good against my skin. When I was done, I went back to my room.

I noticed I had text messages. When I checked to see who they were from, of course, they were from Jonas’ triflin’ ass! I wanted to call him back and confront him about Rozenette’s baby, but since she signed an NDA, I couldn’t mention that I knew about the baby.

How could a man just walk away from his child like that? I wondered if he was going to do the same thing with the baby his wife was carrying since she wanted a divorce. I also wondered what he was going to do about the student who was pregnant with what I knew was his kid.

My phone started to ring again, so I picked up.

“Hello.”

“Why haven’t you been answering my calls?”

“Uhm, because I have nothing else to say to you. Why aren’t you having conversations with your wife… your pregnant wife? Or did you forget about her?”

“Look Gianna, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you I was married…”

“I don’t care that you’re married,” I said.

“Well, if you don’t care, why are you avoiding me?”

“I’m not avoiding you. I’m getting ready to spend some time with my man,” I informed him.

“Your man?” he asked.

“Yep, he’s coming to visit me for the weekend.”

“What?! That nigga is coming here for the weekend!”

“Yep.”

“Gianna why would you do that?!”

“Boy bye! I told you I want nothing more to do with you. He’s my man… period! And unlike you, I’m not going to cheat on him, and I sure wouldn’t do it with you if I was. You and I are done!”

“We’re not done, Gianna!” he hissed.

“Please don’t make me go to student affairs about what went on between us because I will.”

“Don’t threaten me, Gianna! You will see that it’s not in your best interest to do so!”

“Just leave me alone, Profess…”

“IT’S AFTER HOURS!! Don’t call me that! I want and need to see you!”

“I told you that’s not possible! I’m getting ready to see my man,” I said. “And I can’t wait to give him some of this good…”

“SHUT THE FUCK UP GIANNA!!”

“Are you insane? Don’t fucking talk to me like that!”

“Don’t call me crazy!” His tone was unlike nothing I had ever heard from him before. I didn’t know what had set him off, but this was something I wasn’t going to engage in any longer.

“Stop calling me! See you in class on Monday Professor Alexander!” I fussed before hanging up.

He called me back- to- back several times before I decided to block his number.

There was no way I wanted him calling me while I was with Dimitri this weekend.

While I waited for my boo to call me and let me know he was here, I turned on the TV and climbed in bed.

Then I grabbed my phone and got on Facebook.

Scrolling down my timeline I saw something immediately caught my attention.

I sat up in bed as my jaw hit the floor.

“What the hell?”

There was a post about a missing person.

The reason it caught my attention was because of who the person was.

It was the pregnant girl who barged into Professor Alexander’s office that day.

The post said she had been missing for the past week.

As it turned out, she went missing the day after I saw her.

I wondered…

“Nah, he ain’t that crazy,” I voiced out loud.
