Together #2
She smirked. “We’ve both done terrible things.
Whether by actively tearing things down, or by doing nothing to stop the destruction.
But one thing I learned while in Pandora’s box…
is that the choices of yesterday don’t matter as much as the choices of today and tomorrow.
You can mourn the person you’ve been, but don’t let it keep you from becoming someone better.
Every decision you make can shape you into someone new.
Someone good.” She pressed her palm against his chest, feeling his heartbeat.
The pounding rhythm soothed the tension in her body.
“You can choose differently, Sol. No one is forcing you to continue the life you’ve led.
All it takes is one shift, one small decision to put you on a different path.
” She tucked a lock of his golden hair behind his ear.
“Make that choice right now. And, little by little, you’ll become someone worthy. Someone decent.”
Sol’s lips parted as he gazed at her with wonder and awe. His eyes seemed to sparkle in the moonlight.
When he said nothing, Trivia shifted on his lap, suddenly uncomfortable. Why wasn’t he saying anything? He was looking at her like she was a goddess.
She didn’t deserve that look.
“I don’t know from experience,” she went on, finding herself rambling. “I’m only a few choices into my new life. So I really have no idea if I’ll become someone worthy or not. It’s just… something I believe in.”
“Gods, Trivia,” Sol breathed, a slow smile spreading across his face. “When did you become so… wise?”
Trivia blinked at him. “I’m not.”
He laughed. “You are. That was the wisest thing I’ve heard in a hundred years.”
Trivia whacked his shoulder. “Liar.”
It was his turn to capture her face in his hands. His fingers caged her, framing her delicately as if she were something precious that he didn’t want to break. She was startled to find his eyes were moist.
“I only know two things right now,” he said softly, his breath tickling her lips. “I know I want to fight. And I know I want you by my side.”
He kissed her, his lips desperate and hungry. His mouth was hot against hers, mingling with the salt of his tears. He angled her head to better devour her, and she found herself melting in his grasp.
He pulled away with a tortured groan, resting his forehead against hers and breathing heavily. “It’s too much,” he whispered. “Gods, this grief, this—this misery… is too damn much.” He swallowed hard. “This was why I buried myself for so long. So I wouldn’t feel this.”
Trivia brought his mouth back to hers, her lips fervent. She had to make him see. To make him understand. His arms circled around her, drawing her closer.
“I know,” Trivia murmured between kisses, “that I’m alive… and you are, too…” She pressed her mouth to his again, tasting him thoroughly, her tongue sweeping along his. Her hand pressed against his chest once more, feeling for his pulse. “Your heart beats.” Another kiss. “And so does mine.”
She pushed against him until he was lying on the ground with her hovering above him.
His hands cupped her rear, and she rolled her hips.
“Right now, that’s all that matters. You and I are here.
Our story isn’t finished yet. We will take this grief and make something new out of it.
Something to cherish. Something that will thrive. ”
She pressed her lips to the corner of his mouth, then his chin, his jaw, and his nose.
She paused at the hollow of his throat, watching it bob as he swallowed again.
“I want to feel everything, Sol,” she whispered.
“The good and the bad. I want all of it.” She withdrew to gaze down at him. “Don’t you?”
He stared at her, his fingers tightening, digging into her skin. “Yes,” he rasped. “Yes. I want it all.”
Trivia blinked tears from her eyes, struggling to draw breath. The emotion brimming in Sol’s eyes was so fierce that it burrowed deep into her soul, peeling back layers of herself she didn’t know existed. He was raw and vulnerable now, exposing everything to her.
If he was laid bare before her, she would do the same.
“I’m scared,” she admitted in a broken voice.
Tears streamed down her face. “There’s so much death and destruction.
We could be next. Whatever monster did this could be lurking around the corner, waiting to destroy us.
” She closed her eyes, her face crumpling.
“But gods above, if that’s what awaits me, I will accept that fate…
as long as it means I get to be here with you. Tonight. Right now.”
“I thought—I thought I’d lost you for good,” he whispered. “I thought I’d never get to touch you again. To feel you. To taste you. I don’t want to waste another moment, Trivia.”
He leaned in and dragged his tongue along her throat. A violent shiver of pleasure rippled over her. Gods, how she’d yearned for this. In the darkness of Pandora’s box, when she’d believed she had nothing left but her memories of Sol… even those didn’t do him justice.
She tugged at his trousers, sliding her hand underneath until she gripped his cock in her fingers. He jerked against her with a low groan.
They didn’t have much time. Gaia could return at any moment. The idea of Gaia catching her making love to Sol was mortifying, but Trivia didn’t care. They both needed this. They were headed to a war they might not survive. And Trivia would be damned if she wasted this precious time with him.
She tugged her own trousers free, wriggling until they slid off her legs. The wind danced over her bare skin, making her shudder. But the smoldering heat in Sol’s gaze was enough to warm her.
“Give yourself to me tonight, Sol,” she said, pulling his cock free. It was hard and firm and ready for her. “Nothing else but us. If we accept the good and the bad, then let us savor the good. Right now.”
She spread her legs and sank onto him. They both groaned as he filled her, gliding into her as if their bodies were always meant to fit this way. She angled herself so he could drive deeper, and his eyes closed as he let out a sharp gasp.
“Gods, Trivia.” He thrust harder.
“Yes,” she whispered, her hands digging into the earth on either side of him. “Yes, Sol.” Her hips writhed, dragging an anguished sound from him.
His fingers dug into her thighs as he moved again, withdrawing only to slide into her once more.
Her breathing was ragged as she took him in, every glorious inch of him.
His pace intensified. In and out he thrust, setting a rhythm that made her see stars.
Her blood turned molten, her veins lighting on fire.
More tears pricked her eyes, but she let them fall, let all her emotions go.
She wanted it all. The good and the bad.
Sol lifted his hips, pounding into her with feral intensity.
His gasps turned into moans. He cried out her name.
She buried her face in his neck, struggling to hold on when all she wanted to do was splinter apart, to shatter into a thousand pieces.
Within her, that tension coiled tighter, prepared to burst. And gods, she wanted it to.
Harder and harder. Sol’s grunting was animalistic, like he had unleashed a demon. Trivia licked his sweat-slicked neck, then bit down on him.
He cried out and shuddered, finding release with one final powerful thrust. Trivia followed after, her body spasming around him, drawing every last breath, every last drop of him.
She shattered.
She fractured.
She let it all go.
Gasping for breath, she rested her head against his chest, her mind emptying of everything but the exhaustion settling into her bones. She focused on his heartbeat, much quicker now than it had been before. But steady and reassuring.
He was alive.
So was she.
And together, they would fight.
“You’re mine, Sol,” Trivia said breathlessly, tracing circles along the fabric of his tunic. “Whether we live through this or not, your soul belongs to me. Don’t forget that.”
Sol took a few shallow breaths before he murmured, “Never.” He kissed the top of her head. “Now and forever, my soul is yours.”
Trivia settled against him, curling into his warmth. He draped the cloak around her naked legs, sheltering her from the cold.
Together, they would weather every storm. They would face every threat as one.
No matter how bleak or hopeless their situation, they would keep fighting each day.
Fighting for hope and fear. Love and death. Joy and misery.
They would fight for the chance to experience it all.
Together.
