Chapter 47

Victoria returned to the car, put on her mask, and took at voice-altering pill before heading back inside.

The golden butterfly mask gleamed under the lights, her eyes sparkling with a hidden smile, and when she spoke again, her voice had changed. "Thank you so much, Mr. Caldwell."

Jayce glanced at her, seemingly surprised by the change in her voice.

However, he didn't think it was a big deal.

He turned and walked inside, with Delia following him closely and Victoria trailing behind.

She had prepared the perfume in her pocket. She felt the client Jayce was bringing her to meet must be someone of high status, and she needed to approach this negotiation carefully.

As they entered the elevator, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Evie.

Evie: [What bad luck. I just saw Henry.]

Evie: [I don't like him, but he spent a lot of money. He's a customer, so I can't go against him.]

Evie: [Sweetheart, you said you were coming, right? Stay away from the VIP 888 room. That guy is in there."

She tucked her phone away, and her expression returned to normal.

The elevator stopped slowly, and the hallway was lined with expensive soundproof carpets. The walls were decorated in gold, and the solid wood doors were intricately carved with elaborate patterns.

Evie had clearly put a lot of thought into designing this floor. After all, it was for the influential, powerful elite of Lanceser. It had to strike the perfect balance between luxury and subtlety, making people feel both opulent and at ease.

When Jayce stopped in front of room 888, Victoria was stunned. The great environment suddenly became less attractive to her.

Her eyes flashed with surprise. She thought, "Could it be... Could the important client Jayce wanted me to meet be Henry?"

Before she could process her thoughts, Jayce pushed open the door to the VIP room. Inside, seven or eight people were gathered around a table playing cards.

Henry sat at the center, elbows resting casually on his knees. His long, elegant fingers idly shuffled the cards, tossing them out with a languid, careless motion.

He wore a black shirt and trousers that fit his strong, tall frame. The overhead lights illuminated his features, emphasizing the depth of his mysterious eyes. A hint of amusement flickered them, waving over.

His eyes swept over Delia and teased, "Delia, smile a little! You're so cute. Why always look so serious?"

Delia didn't respond.

Jayce walked over and said, "She's here to apologize to you."

Victoria didn't know how to react.

She thought, "Can I just turn around and leave? That wouldn't raise any suspicions, would it?"

Taking a deep breath, she tried to relax.

Victoria kept repeating silent reassurances to herself, forcing her emotions under control.

Henry threw his cards aside, leaning back with his long legs. crossed. His deep, enigmatic gaze fixed on her face as though he were trying to peer through her mask.

He smiled. The words he spoke were laced with a playful tone, "Apologize?" Victoria felt the weight of everyone's gaze. She knew them all, but now, she had to pretend she didn't know any of them.

She looked at Henry, poured herself a glass of wine, and said, "Mr. Harrison, at Sir Caldwell's birthday banquet, I spoke inappropriately and made you uncomfortable. I apologize for that. I hope you'll be magnanimous and not hold it against me."

With that, she downed the entire glass, closing her eyes as she hid the bitterness and frustration beneath a calm mask.

She didn't want to apologize at all!
