Chapter 8
Ariel
After Teddy shows me into the office, I get to work on setting up social media pages for the ranch. Using the photos and videos I took earlier today, I write a paragraph introducing the ranch:
Retirement Ranch- The Ranch for Retired Racehorses
Here at RR, we strive to create a comforting and peaceful environment for retired and injured horses as they enter the last chapter of their lives.
As you can see below, we honor their careers by ensuring there’s a rose garland and newspaper clippings showing their triumphs in every barn stall. We do this to show we appreciate the horses, and what they’ve done for our entertainment in their careers.
This ranch’s mission above all else is the horses, so come by today to come celebrate their lives with us. We offer many services including Horseback Riding and many varieties of Horse Therapy.

Feeling happy with what I posted, I go to the post settings and choose to pay for this post to run as an ad, so it can reach more people. After that’s done, I call it a day, and go to my room.
When I enter the room, I instantly spot the little gift basket sitting on my bed. Smiling, I start to pull out what’s inside. There’s a new phone, some shampoo and conditioner, some face washes, what appears to be a visa gift card, a bath bomb, and a note. I read the note and curse my hormones for the way I swoon.
Ariel,
I know you came here because of bad circumstances, and I know I was an asshole of epic proportions during most of your first night and day here, so take this as my apology. You are welcome here as long as you like, and you are safe here.
This basket contains a gift card for $350, consider it an advance in your payment. You didn’t show up with much stuff, so please feel free to go buy things to make this place more yours because until further notice, this ranch is now your home as much as it is mine.
Veronica helped me pick some of your favorite things, so I hope you enjoy it!
Welcome Home,
Teddy
I’m fighting back tears because this gift took care, just like how much this ranch shows care to its horses. I take out my phone and see that it already has Teddy, Veronica, Harley, and Tony programmed in, as well as the ranch’s number. closing my eyes, and taking a breath, I open Teddy’s contact and send a text.
