Chapter 26
Ariel
Three Months Later
“A Hazelnut Latte for Kayley?” I call out and a woman about my age comes to the counter to get it.
“Thank you.”
“No problem.” I send her a friendly smile as she leaves. Java The Hut has become my new home over the past three months. The owner, Susan found me job hunting after I moved to Coven, Kentucky- a two hour drive from Greenland- and offered me a job instantly. She even gave me an advance on my first paycheck so that I could get an apartment. I’m forever going to be thankful for her. Because of her, I have a place for when Daisy comes. I was able to get a two room apartment, and I have the nursery set up for when my baby girl is ready to come. I’m finally healing again after both Greg and Teddy. The latter of which sent me a text the night I left.
Teddy: I’m so sorry Ariel. I panicked and freaked out on you, and you didn’t deserve it. I can explain better in person. Please come home.
I deleted the text and blocked his number immediately. I”m done letting men walk all over me. I will not have my daughter see me living like that.
After saying bye to Susan, I head home. When I get to my car that’s parked across the street, I’m suddenly grabbed and slammed to the ground. I’m too fazed to react before a foot stomps down onto my stomach followed by a kick to the ribs. When I finally regain my vision, I freeze at the sight of Greg. How did he find me?
“You thought you could leave me? You fucking bitch. I fucking own you. You’re so lucky my friend happened to be passing through town and saw you. Pregnant nonetheless. You slut.” He picks me up and I fight back. I manage to punch him in the face and run, but he’s fast. He grabs me again and throws me onto the ground again. I didn’t realize we made it into the road until one comes too fast to stop, and I scream out in pain as it runs me over. My whole body feels like it’s on fire. I”m in so much pain, but I use my hands to try to drag myself away from Greg. He kicks me again over and over until I black out to the sound of someone screaming for him to stop.
