CADEN

F ear gripped me as I watched Ana suddenly convulse. They had drugged her and clearly, she wasn't reacting well to the drug. I watched helplessly as she continued to convulse for what felt like forever but was probably only a minute. Finally, she stopped and immediately fell unconscious. I had to get her to a hospital, quickly. I heard a twig snap and turned around immediately with my weapon already aimed. A cloaked figure peeled itself from the shadows, their own weapon raised. Their other hand came up and pulled their hood back to reveal my father. I growled. Every ounce of rage I felt bubbling to the surface, fueling every fiber of my being. My muscles tensed, ready to unleash the pent-up fury that had been brewing for years .

My grip tightened around my own weapon, mirroring his stance.

My eyes locked onto my father's, searching for any hint of remorse or regret that I knew I’d never find. All I found was a cold, detached expression.

“You think you can protect her? You’re nothing more than a beast, a shadow,” He said coldly.

“I’m fine being a beast. I’ll simply destroy everything in my path until nothing can get to her. I will always protect her. Unlike you did with my mother,” I replied.

The crack in his coldness showed then. His face going red, his aim dropped, and he took a step forward and before he could aim his gun again. I shot him in both knees. He fell, dropping the gun along the way. I pointed the gun at his skull.

“Goodbye father” The bullet ripped through his skull and embedded itself in the ground behind him.

A bullet suddenly whizzed past me, and I whirled in time to see Nathan dropped limply to the ground. A man emerged from the shadows. His gun pointed at Nathan’s body. Shane Adder, also known as Viper. Did he just save my life? What the fuck? He nodded and stepped forward.

“I’ve been waiting for you to do this, you know. I’ve been tired of these sick fucks for a while.” He said as he stopped in front of me.

“Shane Adder” He offered his hand .

I hesitated, but then shook it. Glancing back at Nathan’s body. I would have preferred to kill him myself but dead was dead.

Ana let out a small groan then.

“Go get your girl”. Shane said, and I nodded and jogged up to her. She was still unconscious the fuckers had her covered in foul smelling blood, dirtying her precious skin with their evil ritual, The initial rage I felt when I first saw her laying on the slab reignited. Damien emerged from the trees just as the sound of gunfire died down.

“Jesus, those fuckers are sick,” He said as he saw Ana.

I picked her up and walked towards the car that Damien pulled up. I placed her gently in the back seat. As I turned, I locked gazes with Shane and nodded. He smiled, knowing that I was aware that I now owed him a debt.

Someone would have to clean this up before the police got here. I signaled to one of my men. He approached, and I gave him instructions. He nodded and walked off. Carefully I slid into the seat beside Ana, lifting her head and gently placing it into my lap, brushing my hand through her hair, ignoring all the dried blood tangling it.

I let out a sigh of relief as Damien pulled out of the area and headed at full speed to the nearest hospital. With every mile, the tension that had been building within me slowly dissipated, replaced by a wave of relief that washed over me. With each breath Ana took, the weight on my shoulders seemed to lift, allowing me to finally exhale. Damien navigated through the traffic with skill and precision. I couldn't help but feel grateful to him for helping me.

We pulled up to the hospital. I gently took her out of the car holding her protectively to my chest as I walked into the hospital, hoping and praying that Ana would be fine. If anything happened to her, I would hunt them all down and kill them.
