Chapter 23

LIMITS

Without Glen by my side to keep me in check, my body was reminding me of my limits.

Buildings, I had mastered: dancing in the centre of rooms, breathing steadily through the proximity to iron.

But these mechanical devices – their wings, wheels, rudders, and fuel tanks…

No escape, too little space, too much speed, too much everything.

After every trip, I was sick for hours. I had never resented summer before, but between the lack of routine dancing, and feeling as though I had been poisoned by nightshade, it was difficult not to.

Such is the price of success, Glen would remind me.

You are no help at all, I would retort, though in truth he was the most helpful person in my life. How lost I would have been without him. The despair that would have consumed me. The love I would have missed.
