“ I know the lockdown is hard. I’m trying to be lenient by allowing members with old ladies and kids to stay in their own place. My brother is still out there.”
“What’s he waiting for?” Dash asks. “He’s fucking toying with us.”
“I don’t disagree. Club safety is my priority, though.”
Hunter takes a long drag from his cigarette before responding. “It’s starting to feel like it’s not a club anymore, man. Money is tight. We haven’t been on a run in weeks. If we don’t make those deliveries, our families suffer.”
“And when was the last time we had a party?” Bishop asks. “The pizza delivery guy said it’s like Fort Knox trying to get in here.”
This makes me chuckle. Bishop would order pizza for every meal, every day if he had the chance. But Hunter has a point. Business has suffered. All of the club’s focus has been on finding my brother when I know he won’t be found until he’s ready.
“I’m not downplaying the threat my brother poses. I wouldn’t be doing my job as president if I pretended he isn’t the biggest threat we’ve ever faced. I also wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t ensure this club’s members were provided for. Hunter, reach out to the Ravens. Tell them we’re ready to start delivering again. Dash and Munsey, we need prospects. Find some. Jake, talk to our buddies in law enforcement again. See if there have been any sightings of Collin.”
“What about me?” Bishop asks.
“Order some fucking pizza. Lockdown is over. It’s time for a party.”
The guys cheer, and I do my best to fight the sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Collin isn’t finished. Dash is right. He’s toying with us, but I need to remind him it’s me he wants. And I’m not going anywhere.
