I purposely bump Charlie’s arm, doing my best to throw off his game. He laughs at my lame attempt, assuring me he’s going to win. And he does. I giggle at his victory dance before he settles back on the couch for a rematch.
“Mom, why did Mason come to breakfast with us? He doesn’t like getting up early.”
“I guess he was hungry.” Charlie gives me this look. This look that says he isn’t falling for it. “And he was at our house and wanted to treat us to breakfast.”
“So, is he like your boyfriend now?”
“Would you be okay with that?”
Charlie shrugs. “He kind of already was. You two just needed to make it official.”
My son figured it out before we did. Why am I not surprised?
“You can’t beat him in this game,” Mason says, walking up behind us. “Munsey showed him all the tricks.”
Charlie grins over at me. I just shake my head, knowing another loss is inevitable.
“I have to run.”
“Okay, we’re going to head home soon. I’m way behind on cleaning and I have a shift tonight.”
Mason leans down and kisses the top of my head before ruffling Charlie’s hair. His actions gain a few curious stares from the guys but no one says anything.
“Can we pick up pizza for lunch?” Charlie asks.
“I swear, you are just like your uncle.”
Who didn’t appear to be happy with me at all.
