I keep a close watch on Davina as she works. She’s better now. My girl is strong, always has been. We’ll get through this. We have to. She flashes me a smile over her shoulder, rolling her eyes when my gaze drifts to her sweet ass. One more hour. My phone buzzes in my pocket and I fish it out, seeing that it’s Munsey.
“Yeah,” I answer.
“We’ve got a fucking problem,” he says.
“The shipment?”
“Taj fucking tried to kill me and Taylor, man. He’s with The Harvester.”
“Shit. You two okay?”
“We’re good. Little bruised and shaken up, but good. He was acting funny after he got a phone call. I’ll text you the number that called him.”
“Can we track it?”
“You can try but it’s probably a burner. What do you want me to do with Taj?”
“Get any info you can from him, then kill him.”
“Do you want me to come back?”
“Finish the delivery. We can handle things here.”
“Taj can’t be the only one he has on the inside. We need to check out the other prospect, too. Any disgruntled former members. He mentioned it was time for The Harvester to take his rightful spot as president.”
“Let me know if you get anything else out of him.”
“Will do. Be careful, Mason. He’s coming after all of us.”
I disconnect and once the text comes through, I step outside and call it. I’m not in the mood for beating around the bush.
“I knew you would call.”
“Am I that predictable?”
Collin laughs. “You never were spontaneous.”
“Your guy is dead.”
“A casualty of war. You know what that is, don’t you, little brother? Carson. Lina. That precious unborn baby. Funny how no one cares about the club whores who burned to death.”
“Your fight is with me. Not the club.”
“That’s where you’re wrong. Once I found out about Charlie, my son , I decided I need to leave him the legacy you’ve tried to take from me.”
“Over my dead body.”
“Works for me. Oh, by the way, tell Jake I said congrats on the baby. Now that I’m a father, I understand why he didn’t want to die.”
The dial tone sounds in my ear. I rush back inside and find Davina. “We have to shut it down.”
“What? We have another hour before closing.”
“Shut it down!”
I’m not leaving here without her. There’s no telling what I’m about to walk into at the clubhouse and I want her by my side.
