Magnolia
APRIL
Me:
Happy Birthday, Lukas.
Lukas:
Thanks, Mags. It’s my first one sober and my big plan is to spend it at home with my parents. I’ll probably be in bed by 8.
Me:
And they say getting old is boring.
Lukas:
My mom made a triple chocolate layer cake for dessert, been looking forward to it all day.
Me:
You and your love for chocolate. Remember that chocolate raspberry tarte you loved from that little bakery here? I had some a few weeks ago, still as good as I remember.
Lukas:
I’d take a trip to Paris just to eat that again.
Lukas:
I’d take a trip to Paris to see you, if you wanted.
Me:
That’s sweet, but I don’t know if I’m ready for that.
Me:
Sorry.
Lukas:
No reason to ever be sorry, Mags. But if I make a wish when I blow out my candles tonight, maybe you’ll change your mind.
Me:
You’re supposed to keep wishes a secret, otherwise they don’t come true.
Lukas:
Naw, this version of Lukas doesn’t keep secrets anymore. I know what I want and I’m not afraid to say it…
