Cade
"Seriously?"
Dax gave me that look. The one that said, you're questioning me.
"Fuck. OK." I didn't feel like another long-ass ride, but when the boss said go, you went.
DC. Wrong fucking direction. But I could be there and back in under fifteen hours if I pushed, so the sooner I left the sooner I'd be back.
I strode into the workshop where I'd been headed before Dax had stopped me. I wanted to check the service sheet. See if Wrench had gotten her address. Anything.
I didn't know where Avery lived.
I looked at the sheet and Wrench only had her first name. No last name. No address. Fuck.
It wasn't his problem. I had enough time to get the details myself, but I looked at him and said, "What the fuck, man."
He just shrugged. Same as I would've.
She'd paid cash. Hundred bucks for the stator.
"Did she ask about me?"
"Yep."
"Well?"
"Asked when you'd be back."
"And that's all?"
"Yep."
"Fuck."
I was headed out the doors when he said, "No, wait."
I spun around.
"I asked if she wanted your number and she said she already had it."
"And that's it? Nothing more?"
"Yeah, there is."
"What?" I loved Wrench but the man could be fucking frustrating sometimes.
“Call the fucking number and find out."
I couldn't.
That was her call to make.
