54. Chapter Fifty-Four
Chapter Fifty-Four
Ryker
I escorted Kya out of Voltaryn, hissing as I touched the cuts on my face.
Malina had kicked my ass when I broke her light barrier with my shadows trying to get to Kya, and used very little effort to do so.
She came at me with a rage that I had never seen from her before.
She sliced at Hakoa, and I, and the guards all at once, though we did little to stop her, refusing to attack her in retaliation and only trying to defend ourselves.
I never expected someone so cheerful and bright to be so vicious and dark.
The Roav are violently protective of one another.
And Kya didn’t even bat an eye when she saw the damage her sister had inflicted. The look on Kya’s face was one of a Roav—cold, hard, and lethal.
Once we emerged from the tunnels, my mate came back to me, the mask of the Roav fallen away to leave the female that had every bit of my heart and soul. Her face lightened, and her features softened with the sun on our skin. Her braided hair hung over her shoulder, swaying slightly with each step.
Aching for her touch, I took her hand and held it firmly in my own. She leaned into me as I heard the crash of the water over the entrance. The adoring look in her eyes as she looked up at me made my heart swell.
She was all mine, in every way.
Without a second thought, I shifted my wings and swept her into my arms. Dirt kicked up from the thrust of my wings as I lifted us into the air and flew back to the palace, leaving Hakoa and Malina on the gravel path.
Kya nestled into me and I could sense her erratic emotions flowing through her—a jumble of confusion and concern.
I remained quiet during the flight, letting us sort through all of the information we had just learned.
When I noticed earlier that Kya had left, the bond yearned to be near her, and irrational fear filled me that she had left for another male—though I knew better.
I felt exactly where she was and immediately flew there.
Furious with Hakoa for bringing her to Voltaryn, I was also distressed.
Not because of her, but for her. And the Sage’s words… his precious diamond …
I was terrified.
Fury surged through my veins. Someone was trying to take my mate from me.
I hadn’t noticed that my grip had tightened on Kya until she squeezed my hand and kissed my neck. Holding her gaze, I couldn’t help the images that flooded my mind of her being taken away from me by another. As much as I tried to keep her from feeling my anguish, I couldn’t stop it.
“It’s okay. I’m right here. No one will take me from you.” Her soft voice soothed as we landed on the balcony of the palace.
I placed her feet on the ground, and she grabbed my hand and led me inside.
But it wasn’t enough. I turned her and pressed her back against the wall, grabbing her ass and lifting her.
Kya’s legs wrapped around my waist, pulling my body against hers.
I kissed her roughly, and she only pulled me closer, gripping my shoulders with her fingernails digging into my skin. I had to have her.
“Ryker,” she gasped breathlessly against my lips as I rolled my hips into her. “Take me to our bed.”
I pushed off the wall and carried her to the bedchamber.
Slamming the door shut behind me, I spun around and pushed her back against the door. The bed was just too far. I needed her right then. I needed to feel her pleasure, her connection as my mate.
Mine.
She tore her mouth away and ripped off her jacket and shirt. “Yes, my shadow, I’m yours. Touch me. Take me.”
I took her breast in my mouth and sucked hard, flicking her peaked nipple with my tongue. Her fingers gripped my hair and she let out a moan, tossing her head back against the door. I spun around again and went to the bed.
Kya began to unbutton my shirt but I grew impatient and ripped it apart causing the buttons to snap off.
Her hands roamed over my chest and down my stomach and my muscles tensed from her touch.
She lifted her hips off the bed as I yanked her pants off before quickly removing mine and she rubbed her thighs together.
As much as I needed to be inside her, I needed her pleasure more. I needed to be her pleasure.
Pushing her knees apart and kneeling on the floor, I bared her pink flesh.
My pupils dilated at the sight of her exposed clit, glistening with her arousal.
I growled deep in my chest before my mouth was on her.
I licked and fucked her with my tongue, lapping up her arousal like a starved beast. And fuck if she wasn’t the best thing I had ever tasted.
From beneath hooded eyes, I watched her face, etched with pleasure, as she cried my name, begging for me not to stop. I gently bit her swollen clit when she closed her eyes, eliciting a gasp, the sound going straight to my throbbing cock.
I needed to see those green eyes and watch them roll in the back of her head while I devoured her and sent her over the edge. She clenched around my tongue with her hands fisting in the sheets.
Kya whimpered when I stood, still wanting, still needing.
Her eyes darkened as I crawled over her and settled between her trembling legs. She wrapped herself around me, melding her body against mine. The sunlight from the windows made her brown hair shine and her skin sparkle.
I kissed her deeply, plunging into her mouth as she tasted herself on my tongue. I groaned when she sucked on it hard with a moan of her own.
She gasped when I hilted myself into her. Gods, she was so warm and wet and tight around my cock.
“Kya,” I growled. “You belong to me .”
She nodded rapidly.
“Say it,” I demanded, pulling out and thrusting back into her. “I need to hear it.”
“I belong to you,” she breathed a moan.
Mine.
“I will always belong to you.”
I buried my face in her hair, the scent of lavender and eucalyptus filling my senses. I groaned against her neck as I continued to pump in and out of her. My balls tightened as my release began to build.
“Even after the stars die out and the last embers of the realms flicker through the skies.”
I held her shoulders to keep her from moving while I slammed fast and hard into her. I roared with my release. My hot cum spilled into her. She threw her head back, and I took her mouth, swallowing her cries of pleasure as she came. She clenched around my cock each time it pulsed inside her.
When we came down from our intoxication, I rolled us over onto our sides and pulled her to me, holding her and kissing her softly. Her body was relaxed. Something primal inside me raised its head with pride.
I gazed down at her and traced my fingers languidly down her arm. Her skin pebbled, and she curled her body into me. I shifted my wings and laid one over her to keep her warm, while using my fire to heat my skin.
“I’m sorry for making you angry.” Her breath tickled the skin on my chest.
“Little gem, I was never angry with you. I was worried about you. I still am,” I whispered against her hair. “I love you, beyond the bond.”
Her lips tilted up. “Beyond the bond.”
Kya fell asleep as I held her in my arms and I must have too, but not for long because it was still daylight out when I woke up with her on my chest. I kissed her on the forehead and she stirred, blinking away the sleep from her eyes before meeting mine with a soft smile.
We sat up and I moved off the bed to retrieve our clothes, then went to the wardrobe to find a new shirt that still had buttons. Kya crossed her legs under her and pulled her shirt over her head. Lifting her gorgeous hips, she pulled on her black skin-tight pants that shaped her ass so perfectly.
Just as I was lacing my boots, Kya placed her feet on the floor to stand when her entire body stilled. The color drained from her face and the feeling of dread washed down the bond. Her eyes widened and her breathing increased with her rapid pulse.
“Kya, what is it?” I asked carefully as I approached.
“The Glaev.”
We rushed out of the bedchamber and down the corridor to the balcony. A pit formed in my stomach at the sight of a black ring of pure death encircling the city of Voara below. It was slowly growing inward, and would soon be too large for the bridges—and escape.
Kya and I were frozen in horror for only a moment.
My city was under attack. Thousands of lives were going to perish if I didn’t do everything I could to get them out quickly.
“Hakoa! Get warriors to the city and get as many people out as you can. The Glaev is surrounding Voara. Do it fast before it gets too large to form bridges.” I commanded in his mind.
His barracks were close enough that I could still speak with him from the palace.
It was why it was there in the first place.
“On it,” he replied tersely.
I ripped off my shirt and shifted my wings, readying to jump off and fly down there to get as many people as I could out. My heart sunk when Kya began to do the same.
“No,” I snarled. I put my hands on her shoulders. “I need you to stay here.”
“If you think I’m just going to sit here while I’m one of the few capable of flying people out—” she snapped.
“You can’t fly people out. Your wings aren’t strong enough yet, and you could fall over the Glaev. I won’t be able to concentrate on saving them if I’m worried about protecting you.”
She shifted her wings.
“You’re just going to have to deal with it then.” She kicked me hard in the stomach, pushing me away enough to break my hold on her so she could run to the edge of the balcony. She leapt off without a moment’s hesitation.
I growled in frustration and instantly followed her.
“Do not carry more than you can. Get the children first. They’ll be smaller,” I demanded.
I saw her nod her head below me.
Tucking my wings, I soared past her and dove down towards the city.
“Theron!”
