12. Chapter 11
Mitchell
The house is finally finished, and we're moving in today.
It's taken about a year to do each room and then the yard out back.
I did most of the work on the house myself with Sarah's help.
I, however, have a sneaky surprise for the love of my life.
I want to make Sarah my wife, and I can't wait any longer to ask the question.
I've got a ring in my pocket and a surprise in the back yard, plus another surprise in the master bedroom where we'll be moving in today.
We've been staying at my penthouse while the repairs and restoration took place.
We built a love nest there, but Sarah really wants to live in her grandmother's house because of the memories it brings.
I turn off the engine of the truck and look at her beautiful face. She's looking forward to the house with a bright smile that changes her whole demeanor.
"Ready to start a new life together?"
"Yes, Mitchell. I'm so happy with how the house turned out. The most special part is that we did it together."
"I'm very proud of the work we did."
"Do you want to carry me over the threshold?"
She has no idea exactly how much I want that for both of us.
I want to bring her into this house as my lawfully wedded wife, and I'll do anything to make that happen.
I open my car door and go towards her side of the car.
Helping her out of cars is one of my favorite things because I get to show off as a gentleman.
Who am I kidding? I'm consistently trying to impress Sarah so that she doesn't wake up one day and feel that she's not where she wants to be. Those are my insecurities, though, being with a woman half my age. She's so damn sexy, I can't wait till she says 'yes' to me.
I take her by the hand and pull her towards the entrance of the house. Unlocking the door, I push it open and smile at her. I then pick her up, bride style and walk through the threshold with the woman that stole my heart.
"Welcome home, Sarah."
I place a kiss on her lips, and she kisses me back with fervor. I'm not ready for that fervor just yet and close the door with my foot.
"You can put me down now, Mitchell."
"No, I don't feel like it."
"You can't just go around carrying me all day long."
"We won't know until we try."
"Mitchell!"
"Okay, fine. I've got one more surprise for you."
"What do you mean?"
I walk over to the patio and open the door. When I get closer she gasps in surprise. I love surprising her and this is my favorite surprise of all time. I'm still not putting her down on the floor when I ask her the question.
"Sarah, will you marry me, little one?"
Then I set her down on her feet in front of the big 'marry me' sign and kneel in front of her. I get the ring out and open the little blue velvet box it came in. I had a replica of her grandmother's ring made for her. I lift it up to her and see that she's started crying.
"No tears, Sarah. This is something good."
"Are you sure you want to marry me? People will talk."
"I've never been more sure of anything in my life. You fill my heart completely and you work side by side with me like an equal. You make me happy to wake up every day, and every night is filled with passion and fire. I'm very sure I want to marry you and I don't really care what people say."
"Will you let me work at your firm once I've become an architect?"
"Is this a condition of our marriage?"
"Sorry, I got sidetracked. Mitchell, you saved me in ways I can't even describe.
My life has never been the same since I met you, and I had a good life before that.
You've given me unconditional love and the support I need to find new frontiers, and I want us to keep doing that for the foreseeable future. "
With that she offers me her hand, and I pull out the ring from the box and place it on her finger. It fits her perfectly and she pulls me up so that we can kiss. I put all the love I have for her into the kiss, and pretty soon it ignites things in me. We might just be ready for the second surprise.
After a while, we pull back, and Sarah is all smiles.
"When did you arrange for all of this?, we were here yesterday."
"I've got minions."
"Mitchell, I think we're going to be really happy here together."
"I know we're going to have an exciting future here."
"What did Meghan say when you told her you were proposing?"
"She helped me find a jeweler."
"Do you think we can have the ceremony here in the back yard?"
"I want to throw you a big wedding."
"I don't need that, Mitchell. You know I like things private."
"Then it will be exactly the way you want it."
"Thank you."
She grabs me by the waist and pulls me towards her. Her whole body is plastered to mine, and I feel myself getting a bit hard for her. Will she always drive me crazy like this? I don't know if I will survive it.
"Come on, I've got the perfect way to celebrate."
I pull her back into my arms in a bridal carry and go back inside the house. Then I go up the stairs with her. I like to keep in shape to be able to haul my woman around because she loves it too. I walk towards the master bedroom and then put her down.
She gasps again. The bed is littered with red rose petals, and there is champagne and chocolate covered strawberries on one of the tables. I go and pour the delicious liquid into two flutes and hand her one while I keep the other.
"Let's drink to our future, little one."
We both lift our flutes and clink the glasses. Sarah is smiling, and I'm a fool in love.
"I love you, Sarah."
"I love you too, Mitchell."
We spend the rest of the afternoon making love and enjoying each other, making promises for a future that we're looking forward to. After a few hours, we fall asleep in each other's arms, exhausted but happy because we've got a beautiful life ahead of us.
