Epilogue
Imogen
Four months later
“Wait, let me guess- you’re moving out?” Donna asked over a cup of coffee.
“Not yet. But it only makes sense…I’m there most nights now.”
“I know. I’ll miss you. I’ll miss this.”
“Me too. I’ll still come by, before work, and we can have our morning coffee chats.”
“You promise?” Donna asked, her voice hopeful.
I nodded. “Of course.”
“Good. I kind of have a secret, anyway.”
“A secret? What?”
“I’ve been dating someone and he’s been staying here a lot…”
“Ah! How could you not tell me?”
“I’m sorry! You were busy with Ronin and I don’t know, we only got serious recently. But yeah, I was thinking of asking him to move in.”
“Oh my God! Donna! That’s so great!”
Donna laughed as I pulled her in for a hug. “You’re happier because I’m not lonely now.”
I rolled my eyes affectionately. “Well, I mean, it is a perk. But who would’ve guessed we would be in love and in relationships?”
“Not me!” Donna slurped her coffee and I tossed a piece of muffin at her.
“Hey, we might even end up with a double wedding.” I teased.
Donna blanched. “Now slow down…no one said anything about a wedding.”
She joked but I wouldn’t mind if Ronin put a ring on my finger.
I was secretly hoping he would ask me soon.
Not that I was in a rush, but I was so madly in love with him, I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Becoming his wife, having his babies…it’s like my biological clock jumped into high gear overnight.
But the first step was moving into his place. I’d tackle the rest as it came.
Two weeks later, I officially moved in with Ronin and Amylee. We fell into a good routine, and we became a family unit easily, as if were meant to happen.
After a few months passed by, one night Ronin and I sat on the back porch with Amylee enjoying a dinner outside while the weather wasn’t too cold yet.
“I still can’t believe we ended up together from a misdial. One wrong number made all the difference.” I said.
Amylee giggled. “Daddy was grumpy about Willow”
“Hey, I was not.” Ronin retorted with a smile. “Okay, maybe a little.”
Just then, a bird flew onto the table, all three of us jumping.
A bird that very much looked like…
“It’s Willow!” I said with a gasp and a clap.
Amylee burst into tears. “Willow! You came to visit!”
She hopped around on the table and flew onto Amylee’s arm. Ronin held his hand out and the bird pecked him gently.
“Hey girl, good to see you.”
Willow hopped around a few times before flying to my arm, landing for a moment, and flying off again.
“Bye, Willow!” Amylee said through tears. We both wrapped our arms around her.
“But look, she was happy, love.” Ronin soothed his daughter as I ran a hand through her hair.
“Yes, she looked so good.” I chimed in.
Amylee’s tears settled and I smiled at Ronin, kissing him above her head.
Ronin held my gaze. “Marry me,” he mouthed.
A sob caught in my throat. “Yes, always, yes.”
