Chapter 23 #2
Angling his head, he moves closer to run the bridge of his nose along my cheekbone, rewiring my brain chemistry as he presses his lips to my ear.
“An undeniable connection that we can dance around all day long, but you know where this is going and want it as much as I do.” The tip of his tongue slides along the shell of my ear, sending delicious, needy shivers up my spine.
When he stops, I hold an anticipatory breath.
“Do you know how badly I want to kiss you, Nurse?”
The words are direct, swarming my senses, his tone sultry, urging a response. Turning my mouth to his ear, I bite gently on the lobe, stealing seconds to learn how to breathe again. “How bad?”
I lean back to watch his reaction play out in those dreamy eyes of his.
I swear time stills just to torture me. And then the bob of his Adam’s apple catches my attention before he runs his hand along the column of my neck and into my hair.
Taking hold of me, he stares into my eyes with intentions I’ve never borne witness to before.
He’s not wrong. I want to kiss him, but he has me yearning for so much more. Arching my back, I’m desperate to rub against him, to resituate myself on his lap and seek the pleasure he has me craving. “Brandon—”
Lightning strikes, our lips colliding together in a surge of inevitable passion. He holds me, kissing me deeper, our mouths opening and our tongues meeting for the first time. Our breaths shorten, and we pull back. He cups my cheek and asks, “Everything alright?”
“Fine,” I reply breathlessly and lick my lips, wondering why he sounds concerned. “Why?”
“Okay. Just making sure.” A slip of a smile engages one side of his mouth as he rubs his thumb over my cheekbone. “You were humming.”
I squint, trying to process what he’s saying. “I was humming?”
His expression lifts, and he chuckles lightly. “Yeah, I wanted to make sure I wasn’t doing something wrong.”
“Oh God no. You were doing everything right. I, uh . . .” Normally, I’d be ripe with embarrassment, but I can’t muster the emotion. I like kissing him too much to turn negative. I can’t help but laugh. “I had no idea I was doing it. It just felt so good. Guess I was savoring it.”
He lowers his hand and rests it on my leg. “You don’t have to savor it. All you have to do is kiss me. Anytime you want.”
It’d be rude not to accept the invitation.
I lean forward and kiss him, our heads angling to a perfect fit, picking up where we left off.
I feel the heat of his hands sliding up my legs to my hips and lifting me onto his lap.
Wrapping my arms around his neck, I’m careful to keep any pressure shifted from his injured shoulder.
My body moves against him, taking what I need while deepening the kiss.
He leans forward with his arms around me, sending UNO cards flying from the surface and laying me down.
“Do you know how long I’ve waited to taste you, to touch you?
” he asks, sliding his hand up my inner thigh and causing my breath to hitch when he rubs over the material between my legs.
When I relax my head back, my eyes go to the apex of the vaulted ceiling.
I try to regulate my breathing and think through what he’s asking.
He doesn’t remember the years, but I remember hearing twitters around town about how he’s always been in love with me.
I never argued why that couldn’t be true, but it’s something even my sisters believed at one time or another.
I lower my gaze to him as he hovers over my thighs.
“What about the reward?” Hunger rasps through my voice, and I reach to hold on to his arms.
“Fuck the game. This is better than I could have wished for.” He pushes up and kisses me before lowering back to the edge of the couch.
“And here I was, ready to see you naked.”
“Again, you mean?” He gives a playful wink. “I caught you looking in the bathroom.”
“If we’re being truthful, it was hard to miss.”
“And getting harder knowing you were watching me.” He licks the corner of my mouth and then plants his lips against mine again. Running my hands into his hair, I hold him to me, feeling his erection against my stomach, causing my body to want to bloom for him.
I start to part my legs, but his hand has slipped between us, teasing. “Don’t move. I’m going to make you feel so good.”
I could never have predicted I’d be splayed across Brandon Culver’s coffee table, anxiously waiting to feel his mouth on me.
Not sure what kind of sorcery turned this situation around, but I’m not unhappy about it.
I just hope the spell lasts, at least until we have an orgasm.
The excitement is too much to stifle, and I giggle.
Peering up at me again, he grins, so roguish I don’t know the direction it’s heading in—smirk, charming, or Duchenne. “Whatcha thinking about there, beautiful?”
“Beautiful,” I hum, letting the euphoria wash through and stretch my arms over my head. “Is this supposed to be so fun?” Poking my head up again, I say, “Because I’m having a good time.”
A breathy chuckle breezes across my exposed middle, and he drops his forehead against me.
When he stops laughing, he looks up again.
“Sex is all about the good time. If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong.
” Walking his fingers to the top of my skirt, he dips the tips into the waistband and starts pulling them down.
“Now, if we’re talking about making love, that’s a whole other thing. ”
“What kind of other thing?” I ask, lifting my ass from the table. Cards stick to my backside but drop off the longer I hold myself in place.
He looks me in the eyes, the smile light around his lips but heavy in the eyes as he slips my sneakers and socks off.
“Making love is just that. You’re creating it, making it, sharing it, feeling it.
” I hear the drop in his tone on the last part as if the emotion grew with it.
“It can be fun, but it’s about loving someone with everything you are. ”
I’d be a gooey puddle of swoons if I weren’t wanting him to finish the job he’s started. I may not have seen him coming, but now that he’s here, I’m realizing I’d be a fool to let this catch go.
His gaze drops to my belly and follows lower as each inch is exposed. When the skirt and undies slide across my shins, I lower back down, and they’re peeled off. It’s not the ache of holding a reverse plank that’s made my heart beat faster. It’s the way he’s looking at me like I’m his next meal.
A hunger in his eyes.
The drag of his tongue over his bottom lip.
When he dips in, closing his eyes and taking a deep inhale of me as if I’m the most delicious thing he’s ever smelled, my entire body readies for this man. I don’t have time to think before he kisses my lower lips, causing my head to hit the table again.
I crank one knee up, anchoring my heel to the table, and grab at his hair. His hand flattens over my stomach, and he whispers, “Show me what you like, Nurse.”
