Bonus Scene

“Fall?” Winter catches us just before we sneak out the front door. We almost made it. She says, “I found something.”
Autumn gives my hand a little reassuring squeeze. “What is it?”
“I was rearranging the furniture in the bedroom since it’s officially mine, and found this stuck between the wood of the vanity and the wall under the window.” She holds out her hand. “A key. I thought you might need it.”
Glancing at Autumn, I say, “You were looking for that.” I slide my hand around my wife’s back, holding her to my side.
“I thought I had lost it at our house.” Autumn adds, “CS #7 led us to it, so Brandon and I are thinking Dad left it for us as the next clue.” She leaves off the part about it being stolen from a display case at the high school.
But do details matter? Nope. Them finding the meaning to all these clues is what matters.
“The mystery continues because we don’t know what it goes to. ”
Winter closes her hand around it and grins. “I think I might.”
