Chapter 31

ZANE

I have no recollection of falling asleep.

But I remember the soft kisses she was giving me before it happened very vividly.

Outside the sun is setting, the golden light washing over her back and her face as she smiles at me, making her even more beautiful.

I always loved watching her in the light of sunset.

I’d forgotten that. But I remember everything now.

“Good morning, sleepyhead,” she says. “I was just thinking I should probably wake you.”

“Why didn’t you?” I ask, noticing her hair is wet and she smells like roses. Meaning she’s showered and has probably been up for a while.

“I wanted you to regain all your strength.” She smirks and winks at me as she says it. Then she throws the sheet off me and straddles my hips. My cock was already hard when I admired her golden sheen and it’s throbbing now.

She teases me by moving her hips up and down along my cock, the touch of her wet pussy the barest whisper against my hard on. But still enough to send yet more blood to it.

I grab her hips to stop her maddeningly slow movements.

“Oh,” she says. “Seems like you got all your strength back.”

She’s smirking as she says it, but in the next moment, as I find her pussy with the tip of my cock and push inside that’s gone. She gasps, digging her nails into my biceps, the sharp pain the perfect opposite to the pure pleasure that is being inside her.

I go as slow as I can, and let her do most of the work, gyrating her hips on my cock, taking more and more in. The moans of pleasure escaping her mouth the greatest song I’ve ever heard.

This is our own private dance, the one we’ll always have, no matter what. I try to hold out, try to make the dance last. But between her sweet pussy clenching on my cock, the song of her moans and her beautiful golden body, I can’t.

I bury myself deep inside her, shudder as I come. She throws her head back and comes too, the moan escaping her mouth and filling the whole room, wrapping us inside a bubble of pleasures that I wish would never burst.

“Yup, you sure got your strength back,” she teases as she lays down beside me, resting her head on my chest.

Her back is glowing like liquid gold now. I run my fingers across it, half expecting to see actual ripples in its surface.

“I wish we could just stay like this all night,” I say.

She raises her head and smiling kinda sadly. “But you can’t?”

I shake my head. “A friend asked me for help before I went to find you and I was very cruel in saying no. Now she could be in danger. I have to go help her.”

She shakes her head, pursing her lips. “You know how I feel about you and other women…”

I laugh. “It’s Alice… Bianca, you remember her from school? She’s the MC’s Sarge now.”

“Tiny Bianca?” she asks. “Never.”

I nod. “And she’s as hard as they come.”

“So she can probably handle whatever it is she’s handling.”

I can’t tell if she’s upset by this plan of mine or not. But I’m starting to accept that I’ll never know what goes on behind that beautiful face of hers.

Last night, Rogue told me that Alice still isn’t back from her mission to hunt down the priest who abused her when she was young.

I blew up at her when she asked me if I’d go with her to help, thinking she only wanted me along because I’m known as a priest killer. But that wasn’t it, I can see that now.

“She needed a friend and I rejected her badly,” I say.

“I couldn’t see anything but my own pain and hatred back then.

But you’ve shown me I still have a heart.

No one’s been able to reach it but you. Maybe ever.

Certainly not in the last ten years. So, I think I gotta go help Alice now.

Are you OK with that? You’ll be safe here while I’m gone. ”

I don’t remember the last time I said this many words in one go. Or managed to speak about my feelings this well. Maybe that’s the reason for the surprised smile on her face. And her eyes are little moist, if I’m not very much mistaken.

“Are you saying that maybe you still love me?” she asks, making my breath catch in my throat.

Love.

A few days ago, I was sure I hated her.

But…

“Yeah, I think so,” I tell her and grin. “I think I love you.”

“Good,” she says. “And hopefully soon, you’ll know it for sure. And just so you know, I love you and always will.”

“Yeah,” I say. “Yeah, me too.”

There I go, losing my ability to speak about this stuff again.

She laughs and runs her hand don’t my cheek. “Don’t ever change, Zane, seriously. And yes, go if you think you must. Do what you gotta do. I’ll be right here, waiting for you to get back.”

I pull her to me, wrap my arms around her, and let my kiss say all those words I’m still having trouble saying. Like I love you and I forgive you, and I never want to be away from you again.

And I think I made myself very clear, because she’s smiling at me from the tangled sheets later—after another private dance and a shower—as I’m dressing to hit the road and get Alice.

I have to leave now so I can come back as soon as I can. Because I already don’t know how I’ll fare on my bike in the night without her at my back.

But once this is done, I won’t leave her side again. No matter what.

I won’t deny that it was hard getting dressed and leaving the warmth of Sienna’s presence. Especially since I have no idea what I’m riding into. But I have to do it. I have to correct the mistake I made in not going with Alice on her mission in the first place.

Having Sienna back has showed me I can be a man. Not just a fugitive, fighting to survive with every step I take. Not just a prisoner of my hatred and all the mistakes and wrong choices I made. But for that, I need to do this.

I find Rogue alone in the war room, his face so close to the screen of a laptop it looks like it’s about to swallow him up.

“I’m going to get Alice,” I tell him as I walk into the room. “She needs to be warned about Hydra’s escalation.”

He jerks as though I startled him, then it takes him a few moments to fully focus his eyes on me.

“I’ve been meaning to send a few of the members after her,” he says.

“No need. I’ll go alone,” I say. “Just tell me where she is.”

“What about the plan to bait Sienna’s husband and Hydra?”

He’s still wearing the same clothes as he was early this morning when we arrived, and his face plainly says he hasn’t been to sleep yet.

“That’ll have to wait.” As far as I’m concerned, it can wait forever. I’m not too thrilled about using her as bait in any way, shape, or form. Even if she won’t come anywhere near actual harm in this plan we made last night. “And we need our Sarge here for what comes next, don’t you think?”

He nods. “Yeah, I would like to have everything lined up for when we take them on.”

“So tell me where she is, I’ll go, help her do what she needs to do and bring her back.”

He gives me a long hard look during which I clearly notice he’s much more tired than just from losing one night of sleep. Even his usually very bright green eyes are dull and practically lifeless.

“How the fuck did we land ourselves in this shit?”

I don’t think he’s actually expecting me to answer. But I do have an answer for him.

“Because you don’t think twice about helping those who need help. Especially those that can’t help themselves. Those women you saved from Hydra needed saving. You couldn’t walk away from that. It was noble. But dangerous.”

He chuckles. “You make it sound noble and simple. But this shit we’re in now is anything but. I’m just sitting here, waiting for our members to start dying and I have no idea how to stop it. Or if I can.”

I pull out a chair and sit next to him. “You’ll stop it. And the MC will be stronger and better for it. And I’ll be right by your side as you do it. No more running around chasing my own demons and fighting anyone who tries to get close.”

He clasps my shoulder. “Glad to hear it, brother. Seems like Sienna’s done a number on you again. In a good way this time.”

He’s never made it a secret that he thinks my obsession with Sienna led to my downfall and he’s right. He’s also such a good friend to me that he’s never come any closer to calling me out on it than this.

“So it’s decided. I go, bring back Alice and then we get rid of Hydra for good,” I say. “And you get some sleep. And a shower. You need both.”

He chuckles, shakes his head, and stands up. I do too. “You’re not wrong about that.”

Then he gives me Alice’s location and wishes me good luck.

And I hope I won’t need it. I hope it will only be a day or two before I’m back with my Sienna. Then we’ll dispatch all our enemies. Together. Exactly as it was always meant to be.
