Everlyn Chapter 12 #3
The three of us had been comparing various pieces and picking out the ones we wanted for about ten minutes when we overheard voices.
At first, with so much chatter from all around us, I paid no attention to what was said.
But then the words registered, making me freeze, then turn slowly to face whoever was behind us.
“What kind of club allows women in it?” A man remarked.
“A pussy one,” a second man said.
Their words were followed by laughter. Standing there were three men and two women. They cast us dismissive looks.
“What kind of club allows loser fucks like you three into it? One that can’t handle being a real club,” Slayer responded without missing a beat.
The amusement dropped from their faces to be replaced by scowls. The guy without a woman hanging on him took a step toward us.
“I’d watch myself,” he snapped.
“Why would we do that?” Spoiler asked.
I had sunglasses on, so I scanned our immediate area to see if any of the guys were still nearby. They’d moved a few stalls down. Not that I thought we needed them, but these creeps might have friends join them.
To look at me, people would assume I knew nothing of fighting.
They’d be wrong. Between the time I lost my mom when I was twelve and when Jeremiah took me in at fourteen, I’d learned how to fight.
Living in a group home wasn’t easy, and despite their best attempts, bullying and fights happened.
So I started learning how to protect myself, and when I moved in with Jeremiah and Allegra, he insisted that we both learn self-defense.
“Because we don’t take lip from bitches,” the dark-haired guy said. The woman on his arm giggled.
“Well, based on the company you keep, I’d say that was false,” I stated. It just slipped out, but I didn’t regret it.
It was hilarious to see the men react to my words while the women stood there, clueless. They were as dumb as they appeared. Neither knew I’d insulted them.
“Shut it, bitch,” the second one, with a woman, a shorter blonde woman, snarled.
“Or what? You’ll shut it for her. I wouldn’t think about it. If you touch her, you’ll be torn to pieces,” Slayer growled.
“Oh, you’re gonna run to your so-called biker men to come do it. We’re not afraid,” the single one jeered.
“The only ones who’ll run are you, and we don’t need any of our brothers to take care of trash like you,” Spoiler told them.
I noted that she and Slayer had widened the spacing between us.
I shifted my left foot behind me and angled my body to the side.
It presented a smaller target. I was ready to spring into action.
Vaguely, I noticed we were attracting the attention of other bikers and spectators around us.
They stood there, saying and doing nothing.
The three men took threatening steps toward us.
Jeremiah had always taught me to strike first. I guess Spoiler and Slayer had been taught the same because they each struck out at the same time I did.
The guys had lined up one in front of each of us, making it simple to determine who to defend against.
Spoiler punched her attacker in the face, breaking his nose, causing his eyes to tear and him to howl in pain.
Slayer’s target gasped, coughed, and gagged from the throat punch she served him.
And mine, well, he tried to decide which he should hold—his stomach or face.
I’d punched him in the gut, and when he hunched over, I slammed my knee into his face.
The loud babble of voices peaked around us, but I never took my eyes off my target.
I was ready to hit him again if he made another move, though it was highly unlikely right now.
As the three men remained doubled over in astonishment and pain, the two women shrieked like alley cats and came charging at us with their claws pointed in our direction.
One went for Spoiler and the other me, since we’d been the ones to deal with their men.
I slapped my bimbo’s hands away from my face, then latched onto her hair and whipped her away from me.
Her extensions came loose in my hand, resulting in her screaming in pain as she grabbed her head and dropped to her knees, wailing.
I missed what Spoiler did to hers, but the woman was on her knees, sobbing.
As if by magic, the entire Grave Prowler crew suddenly surrounded us. They wore pissed expressions. Zephyr came to stand next to me.
“What the hell is happening here?” he asked.
“Oh, you know, shopping for clothes, slapping bitches into place, and teaching assholes manners. Nothing much,” I smarted off.
The Prowlers burst out howling with amusement. It took them a few moments to say anything.
“Damn, she’s fitting right in,” Thor remarked.
“Do you know where I can get one like her?” Harbinger asked.
“You’re going to pay for what you did,” the single guy threatened hoarsely.
The way they were positioned allowed me to read the back of their cuts. They were with the Wayward Wanderers MC. I waited to see what the outcome of this would be.
