M y heart breaks a little when Vitya holds the drink out to me and looks away, like he can’t even stand the sight of me. I try very hard to not think about the fact that he went out last night, because picturing him with another woman makes me want to toss the scalding cup of coffee in his face right before I vomit all over his nice black boots.

I take the latte, my anger momentarily appeased when the sweet drink hits my tastebuds. When we start to descend, he reaches into his leather jacket and pulls out a small bag before silently handing it over to me. I smell the blueberry muffin before I even open it and take it out. It’s my favorite muffin, the one I always get when I drag him into the coffeeshop on the corner, and I can’t help but be touched that he remembered.
