Igroaned, pushing away from my desk. I’d been in my office all fucking day, making plans for our decoy shipments with Romeo and Domenico. We would tell our soldiers about our plan to drive additional weapons into the city from our northern warehouse to make up for the lost shipment, but each group would be told one of five different routes. We would track which route was intercepted by the Albanians, showing us which men to question.

We were still working to finalize our plans, but it had been hours since I said goodbye to Sofiya this morning. The slow-growing obsession I had with my wife had accelerated like wildfire after being inside her. I needed to touch her, hold her, confirm she was safe.

I’d abruptly announced to Domenico and Romeo that we were done for the day—citing dinner as an excuse—and kicked them out of my office. Excitement strummed through me at the thought of spending the evening with Sofiya as I gathered up the large gift bag and headed upstairs to our apartment. I came to a sudden stop when I saw her in the kitchen with three of my men. Angelo, Enzo, and Romeo were all crowded around the kitchen island while Sofiya sat on the seat of her rollator, a pretty smile on her face.
