CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT

T he prince and his new bride may have been under the impression that the entire city could think of nothing better to do than celebrate their loveless union, but I knew things about his precious Wrathbane which the prince in his pretty palace could never hope to understand.

It had taken long enough to navigate, first the vibrant and heavily decorated centre of the city, then the affluent merchants’ quarters, and even the start of the roughs where those with the least lived crammed together. Once I had made it into the depths of the squalor - which all cities of this size held on their perimeters - I had found the truth of the peoples’ hearts.

No one here gave a fuck which prince was marrying which pompous bitch in a castle built of stone that was cleaner than the clothes they wore on their backs. Of course they accepted the two days of revelry happily enough – though the ale in this part of the city was piss water compared to the wine supped at the stuffy wedding.
