Chapter Twenty

W alking into the house had been a little bit of a blur, trying to calm myself from being alone with her in my house while at the same time trying to tell myself that I should just let her leave. It had been a while since I’ve been out. A while since I’ve come into this bar as a single man without a care in the world. Now I was a man with a daughter, who was right at that instant at home with the woman I’ve been doing nothing but aching to feel against me. It was beyond frustrating, to the point where I would look forward to the weekends so I wouldn’t feel like I was standing on a tightrope in the middle of the Grand Canyon, knowing I would plummet down with just one push or touch.

She stands with me in my bedroom, a place where, besides Lucy, no one but me has entered, and now her. The minute I got the sweater for her and called her name was the same minute that I knew that nothing would be the same. Then add in she puts her hands on me, my mouth on hers, her tongue mixed with mine. It’s almost as if it’s game over for me. Her hand flutters over my neck and then into my hair.
