I ’m walking up the aisle of the mini-mart with Karina, pushing the cart while she reads from Mom’s list, and I come to an instant stop when I see Wade outstretched in front of us, reaching up onto the top shelf to get Dolores a can of taco beans.

He looks different than usual today. Instead of a Stetson, he’s wearing a baseball cap that's turned backward and a sleeveless shirt that shows off his impressive arm muscles. It takes all my focus not to drool.

“Thank you, honey.” Dolores pats him on the shoulder as he stares across at me and smiles. “Ain’t many gentlemen left in the world. I don’t know how this one hasn't been snapped up yet,” she speaks to me and Karina as she puts the can in her basket.

“I sent my RSVP back to you. I’m having duck, dear, it didn’t specify if the sauce was optional. Now I don’t like too much…”
