Leo greets us at the door when we walk in, his tail hitting everything in his path. He’s so happy to see Olive again. I watch him as he circles around her, searching for Lottie.

Olive gives him generous head pats before scoping out the living room. Her eyes trail around until they reach me. I can see the determination in her expression. No more waiting; this is it. I have dreamed about this for a long time, and we are here in the moment now.

I lead her to my bedroom, fully shutting the door behind us.
