W e trudged through the darkness, arms brushing against each other’s. The silent air was heavy with unspoken words. Heat filled my cheeks from the wine, and every once in a while, a sentence would form in my mind, only to be quickly swallowed back down by dread at the thought of voicing it.

“Thank you for healing my ankle.” I studied the worn boards of the bridge we were walking over. “It really does feel better.”
