Angel listened to Buzz lie about not finding Mia attractive. He turned around when suddenly people shouted behind him like some fight had broken out. He watched Amara push Molly to the ground near the coolers while Nora and Gwenn eyed each other in some kind of Western movie.
“What the fuck?!” he roared while his legs ate up the distance between them.
He had promised Nora he would keep her safe, unaware that his biggest concerns should have come from the girls rather than his club brothers.
Gwenn stumbled over her words about something that didn’t happen, and he instantly knew he’d fucked up. He should have told Nora about what happened months ago between Dragon, Zeus, Gwenn, and him.
Nora stormed off before he could grab her and he gave her a minute as Buzz already talked to her, calming her down as he hugged her.
“What the fuck, Gwenn?!” Angel roared.
“Hey, you should have told her. This is not on me.”
He should have known that Brass Balls would give it to him straight. Angel scratched the back of his head and said, “You’re right. Sorry.”
”Leave me alone!” Molly screamed from beneath Cat, who was sitting on top of her, pinning Molly”s arms above her head against the ground.
He hadn’t even seen Whirlwind coming.
Since both Brass Balls and Club Princess were pregnant, Angel was glad that Whirlwind had taken it upon her to handle Molly, who screamed like a banshee.
“Shut the fuck up, bitch! You’ve stirred the pot, now this is what you get. Nobody messes with my sisters!” Whirlwind shouted.
”Babe,” Demon said in his eerily calm voice from the shadow of the nearest tree.
Whirlwind instantly let go of Molly and hoisted her up.
“You handle this bitch, or I will,” Whirlwind said to Angel before giving Molly’s back one last push on her way over to her Old Man watching them from the shadows.
As the Club’s Enforcer, it was Demon’s role to keep everyone in check. But he must have figured Angel would handle this shitshow himself as he gave Angel his signature single nod.
“What the fuck did you say to my Old Lady?” Angel said to Molly.
Molly’s green eyes widened in shock. “Old Lady? You said you didn’t want an Old Lady.”
“There’s only one woman for me, and that’s Nora. It’s always been Nora.”
“What? That shy bitch who can’t even talk like a normal person?”
“Shut your mouth,” Gwenn said before Angel could.
Molly snorted. “I can’t believe you. So now what? You’re sticking to that dull bitch for the rest of your life?”
Angel closed the distance, looking down at Molly as he said, “One more word. If I hear you bad-mouthing my Old Lady again, I’ll have you banned.”
He knew that like most of the club whores and brothers, Molly had no other place to go besides IVMC. But she’d better get her act together quick because he had no sympathy left for her after she’d purposely hurt his Old Lady.
Molly nodded and scurried away to the other side of the campsite, where the brothers demonstratively turned their back on her.
Angel paid no attention to Nora’s sisters cussing him out on his way over to Nora, who sat next to Buzz on a large rock overlooking the Colorado River.
Buzz stood the moment he saw Angel approach them.
“Can I ride with you?” Nora asked Buzz, ignoring Angel.
Angel narrowed his eyes. “If you think I’d let my Old Lady backpack a brother of mine, you’re delusional.”
“And if you think that I’m staying here for a moment longer, then you’re delusional!” Nora shouted.
He blinked, not expecting her very vocal reaction.
“I’m out,” Buzz said, his hands raised in surrender.
Nora looked at Buzz retreating, like he’d been some sort of lifeline and she’d lost all hope.
He walked up to Nora. “Darlin’, if you want to go, I’ll take you.”
“You just don’t get it, do you?” she said.
“Of course I get it,” he said. “I fucked up.”
She nodded. “Yes, you did. You’ve hurt me.”
Angel took a deep breath while his heart ached with this unknown pain. He’d never hurt a girl before. He’d always kept girls at bay and told them straight from the get-go that he wasn’t interested in anything with them except for some fun.
How could he have hurt the one person who trusted him completely?
“I don’t know what to say, Nora. I should have told you about that night. It happened months ago, and I didn’t fuck her. She?—”
“I don’t want the details! Geeez!”
He grabbed her chin, making her lock eyes with him. “Well, you’d better listen anyway, since you’re probably making this bigger in your head than it actually is.”
She narrowed her eyes. “That’s exactly what my father used to tell my mother.”
He should have known that her past would resurface and make things even worse.
“I’m nothing like your father.”
“I’m not the one at fault here. It’s not even about that night you shared with my half-sister. It’s about you not telling me. By making me your Old Lady, you’ve put a target on my back for those stupid girls you’ve fucked for years and then you think they wouldn’t throw it in my face?”
Angel sighed. “Shit. I’m an idiot.”
“Yes. You are.”
His upper lip pulled, since he liked her putting him in his place.
“Stop smirking!” she bristled before storming off.
At least she got on the back of his bike, waiting for him to join her.
He turned on the ignition, remaining completely still until she finally wrapped her arms around his waist.
After the long ride to her off-campus apartment, he parked his chopper in front of her building. She handed him his helmet back in silence.
“Jump Fire…”
He didn’t know how he could make this right. He knew he’d fucked up, but he also couldn’t change the past.
“Let’s talk tomorrow. I just need a night,” she finally said.
“One night. But I’m coming for you tomorrow. And then we’ll talk.”
She nodded.
She left him sitting on his bike in front of her building, as she turned her back on him in silence.
Was Nora about to prove him right? Was she the next person in a long line of people that hurt him right after he’d opened up to them?
“Fuck this shit.”
He drove straight to the clubhouse in need of a drink.
