Nora opened the door to her apartment and instantly noticed Rosie walking up to her in the hallway.
“I’ve heard,” Rosie said, her facial expression sad.
It shouldn’t surprise Nora that news traveled fast, even outside the bend.
Nora accepted her friend’s hug and cried. She’d ignored her sisters’ calls and texts while riding back from the bend to her apartment on the back of Angel’s bike.
Gwenn should have told her about being intimate with Angel that first night in lockdown when they talked in the kitchen. Even if it happened long before Nora got together with Angel tonight.
It was the right thing to do. It was what Nora would have done. Right?
She wondered if Cat knew about Gwenn and Angel. Nora stabbed the tears from under her eyes and said, “Let’s go to the pub. I’m not ready to talk about what happened. I need a drink.”
Rosie’s boisterous laugh warmed Nora’s heart. “You don’t need to tell me twice, girl. Let’s go.”
Rosie grabbed her purse and said, “Drinks on me. Leave your phone so you’ll not drunk text Angel when you get horny after a few drinks.”
Nora had no intention of contacting Angel tonight, but her friend had a point. “Okay.”
They walked out of their building and entered the local Irish pub around the corner.
“Hey ladies, everything all right?” Jack, the cute bartender, asked while eyeing Nora’s puffy eyes.
“I’m fine,” she whispered.
“No, she’s not. She’s in need of a stiff drink, and so am I,” Rosie said loud enough to draw the attention of two guys sitting on the other end of the bar.
“First round is on us,” the one looking like a bodybuilder said.
“That’s nice of you,” Rosie said with a flirty wink.
“Rosie…” Nora said before grabbing Rosie’s arm. “I just want to hang out with you tonight.”
“Ah, you know what they say about the best way getting over a man…”
Nora shook her head. “I don’t want to get over Angel.”
Rosie ordered two white wines with Jack, who unabashedly listened in on their conversation, and said, “At least let the man sweat a little before giving in to him.”
“He made me his Old Lady. That means we should talk things out. I don’t think I should’ve pushed him away,” Nora said with a hiccup.
Rosie patted her shoulder. “Nah. Believe me. I grew up at the club and I’ve seen more fights between a biker and his bitch than I could ever count. Those assholes will never learn if you give in too easily.”
“I just don’t understand why he didn’t tell me about… you know…” Nora said.
Rosie pulled her shoulders. “We all know that Zeus likes to share his Old Lady. It’s kind of their kink. Apparently, it happened before you came into the picture. Even before you really knew Gwenn.”
“Who told you that?”
Rosie took a sip of her wine. “Amara. She heard it from Gwenn tonight. And Cat never knew, by the way.”
Nora wanted to text her sister back, but realized she’d left her phone upstairs in their apartment.
“It’s not even him getting a blowjob from Gwenn.”
“I know. But it might make a difference if you knew it happened during a full-on orgy with Zeus, Gwenn, Dragon, and Angel in the room.”
“You’re not helping by putting images in my head,” Nora said before drinking her wine.
“It’s not a big deal for them, Nora. They fuck around all the time. Anyone can join and the only thing that happened was Gwenn sucking his dick. I’ve heard that Dragon?—”
“Stop. I don’t want to hear another word about them.”
Rosie sighed. “Sorry. Sometimes I forget just how different you are from your sisters. And I don’t mean it in a bad way. It just baffles me that after all these years of coming around the club, and with your brother and sisters being in deep with the club, that foursomes still shock you.”
“It isn’t about the stupid foursome!” Nora said, setting her glass of wine back on the bar with a clank.
“I get it. I’m sorry. I’m saying all the wrong words. Shit.”
Nora watched Jack as he talked with the two guys sitting on the other end of the bar. She didn’t get why her roommates found him so attractive. He came across as a total weasel if you’d asked her.
The nerve of him eavesdropping on their private conversations. She wouldn’t return here.
“Did you see Devlin tonight at the bend?” Rosie finally asked, probably to fill up the awkward silence.
“No. He’s away for the weekend with Teagan. Probably a good thing, since everything that happened tonight.”
She only did what she did with Angel in between those trees above the campsite because no family member had been there when she’d arrived.
“He’ll hear about Angel making you his Old Lady soon enough. Maybe we should finish our drinks and head back so you can call him yourself?” Rosie asked.
“Thanks, Rosie.”
“No problem. Come on, let’s chug this awful wine.”
Nora laughed. “It really is a bad grape or something. Yuck.”
“Maybe we should pinch each other”s nose, so we don”t taste the awful flavor,” Rosie said with a huge smile.
Nora giggled as they did what Rosie proposed.
She didn’t know if it was for the bad wine or all the emotions still running through her body, but when she got up from her bar stool, she had to grab the bar for balance.
“I-I don’t feel too great,” Nora said with a groan.
“Me neither.”
Nora followed Rosie out of the pub, the fresh air doing nothing to improve her nausea.
“What the Hell?” Rosie shouted when a black van rounded the corner at high speed.
It came to a complete stop right in front of them, the back of the van opening up before two men leaped out and ran in their direction.
“Nooo,” was the last thing Nora slurred before she passed out.
