Chapter 24

“Where the fuck are we?” Zion asked as he looked at Angel and Dragon over his shoulder while driving their van through the desert on their way to Silas’ fortress near Las Vegas.

With Zeus, Demon and Fox following them up close in their van, the club’s Road Captain, Zion, was supposed to navigate their way through the desert.

While they knew Silas had moved his Storm Riders motorcycle club to Las Vegas, they had no idea where to find their clubhouse.

Luckily, Fox had remembered that Vic, the mole inside their club, who’d also shot Turtle a few months ago, had fled to Las Vegas on his bike. It was the same bike Fox had bugged with a tracker and while Fox figured a few months ago that the tracker stopped working in the middle of the desert; they were now convinced it was the exact spot where they held Nora and Rosie.

“I’m trying Branko one last time,” Angel said.

“If that fucker isn’t lying in a ditch somewhere, I’m going to whoop his ass for not answering our calls all day,” Zion grumbled.

“What?!” Branko barked on the other end of the line.

Angel didn’t expect Branko to answer the phone, but instantly waved his hands in the air and said to Dragon, “Get Zeus on the phone. I’ve got Branko on speaker.”

“Does Silas have our girls?” Angel asked Branko.

“Yes.”

Angel had to know. “Is Nora okay?”

“Yes, she’s fine.”

Angel felt bad that he only asked about Nora and quickly added, “And Rosie?”

“No, I don’t know.”

“Do you have eyes on her?” Angel asked.

“Not right now.”

Angel shared a look with Dragon. He didn’t like the sound of that.

“Where are you, man? I think that we’re already close,” Angel said while peering into the pitch-black desert from his side of the van.

Angel heard his phone ping.

“I’ve sent you my location. Things will go down in three minutes, though. What is your ETA?”

Angel checked the location. “We’re eight minutes out. Wait for us. There’s six of us.”

Branko took a moment but said, “No, we can’t wait. I’ve got to hang up now so I can protect your missus.”

Angel opened his mouth to ask Branko about his plans that couldn’t wait, but Branko already hung up on him.

“Mother fucker!” Angel shouted while punching the roof of the van.

“He probably couldn’t speak freely, brother. At least we’ve got one of the good guys on the inside and we now know where to find this needle in a haystack,” Zion said.

“Did you copy that?” Dragon said into his phone.

Angel heard Zeus’ booming voice, “Why the hell didn’t he call us? What the fuck is Branko up to?”

“Ask him later tonight, after we’ve freed our girls and killed Silas and Vic,” Zion said.

“ETA is six minutes. Step on it,” Angel said.

After the six longest minutes of his entire life, they finally drove up to another part of the rugged terrain with sand and rocks, but also two houses.

One house looked worse for wear, while the other house was a villa wrapped in weathering steel.

Zion slowed down the van and said, “My guess is that the girls are inside that dump.”

He pointed towards the dilapidated house.

With his night vision goggles perched on his head, Dragon exited the van, sniper rifle in hand.

”Let”s go,” Dragon said, taking the lead.

After running closer to the old house, Dragon dropped to the ground and peered through the scope of his rifle.

Angel blinked when two bodies dropped to the ground under twenty seconds after their arrival.

“Coast is clear,” Dragon said.

Angel followed his brother and watched how Zion waited by the van, gun in hand, so he could make a quick getaway with the girls when they would find them.

They entered the ugly yellow door to the house and found the hallway empty. A sudden loud explosion outside of the house made Dragon and Angel fall to the floor.

He scrunched his nose, realizing the hallway smelled after piss and what not.

“Help!” he heard a woman shout in the distance.

Angel kept his ear to the ground and heard more voices coming from downstairs.

“They’re right under us,” Angel whispered to Dragon, who laid next to him on the floor.

Dragon nodded. “I heard. Let’s go.”

Dragon led the way and checked every of the six doors in the hallway before going downstairs to what looked like some kind of basement.

The sight they walked in instantly made him nauseous. Trapped like fucking dogs, three girls were caged in dog kennels.

“Rosie, it’s okay. We’re here,” Dragon said in a calm voice, and Angel appreciated his brother keeping his wits about him. He’d probably seen worse during his tours in Afghanistan.

“Please help us,” a frail redhead said from another cage in the basement.

He wondered how long she’d been stuck inside that cage since she seemed awfully malnourished.

Dragon and Angel swiftly shot the locks off the cages. Rosie embraced Angel and hiccupped, “They took Nora. I’m so sorry.”

“She’s with Branko. She’ll make it,” Angel said.

Rosie shook her head. “It wasn’t Branko. It was some other guy who took her.”

Angel grabbed Rosie by the arm and helped her upstairs while Dragon carried the redhead and kept his eye on the other girl. She followed Dragon and the redhead while mumbling to herself, “I’m gonna kill them all.”

The girl’s attitude, even after what she’d been through, reminded Angel of Nora’s twin, Whirlwind.

Angel helped Rosie into the van, where Zion immediately gave her a bottle of water. He also handed the other girls water, but kept his eyes trained on Rosie.

“I’ll drive the van to our meeting point. Good luck, guys,” Zion said.

“Thanks Zion, bring these girls back to safety,” Angel said.

Rosie grabbed Angel’s wrist and said, “Find her.”

Angel didn’t want to think about the possibility of not finding Nora and said, “Our brother probably already did, Rosie. We’ll bring her to you.”

Angel didn”t know if he was saying this to convince himself or Rosie, but he needed it to be true.

“Let’s go help the others find your Old Lady,” Dragon said.

With a quick glance above into the velvety darkness, punctuated by a myriad of twinkling stars, he asked Allie if she could please look out for his Old Lady and keep her safe until he got to her.

“Okay. I’m ready,” Angel said.
