Chapter Fifty Five

Truth

“Stop it!”

Juliette shouted.

I was taken aback.

I’d never seen Juliette angry before. I’d seen her upset but I’d never seen her angry. She was angry for me.

This would be the first time anyone came to my defense, the first time anyone ever stood in my corner, on my side, protecting me.

Watching her brows pull together in frustration strangely made me feel very loved. Or maybe that made me insane, and my father was such an asshole that the girl that I’m in love with had to come to my defense.

Her eyes found mine and my brows shot up with curiosity, waiting for what was next and she looked like she finally realized she just screamed at my father, but it didn’t look like she was planning on opting out.

She glared at my father then took a deep breath. “Callum is twice the man you’ll ever be and twice the father you’ll never be.”

She held her chin up and twisted her lips into a cute little frown, “he is a good hand.”

I watched her brows pull together as I felt the tension in her words.

“I chose from a good hand, and Clay will be raised from two good hands. He’ll have an amazing supporting dad that will love him no matter what he chooses to do in life, and that’s something you’ll never overcome because you’re a coward and you’re inferior by default so you need Cal to do everything you want him to do so you could pat yourself on the back to make yourself feel better and bigger at night.”

She released a breath, and her voice softened from the harsher tone. And I was frozen with a bated breath.

“Callum is an amazing father, and that should haunt you because that is something you’ll never be.”

My father blinked as he scoffed, “Callum’s a good father to…Ardley’s baby?”

he said in a condescending tone, “please, don’t make me laugh—”

“Callum is Clay’s biological father,”

Juliette said flatly.

My father was frozen with furrowed brows as he looked at Juliette who was still angry. My mother gasped, and next to me I heard Ardley’s loud sigh as he dropped his head, and I stopped breathing all together.
