48. Skylar

CHAPTER 48

SKYLAR

I ’m discharged the very next day, which I think the hospital is grateful for since my boy is a drill sergeant when it comes to my care. Camera crews are set up at all times outside, so Noah causes a distraction, and Alek and Evan pick us up out back.

My leg has a slight fracture, and my shoulder was dislocated, but it was put back into place. My head injury was the worst, and I need to keep an eye on it for a concussion, but all in all, I was very fucking lucky. Most would have broken bones, lost limbs, or worse.

Bones’s hands were rebandaged today. The doctor assured me they would work fine. I hate that he will have permanent scars because of me, but he doesn’t seem bothered by it. I know I should go after Conall, who did this, but I’m tired, and I just want my boy. Besides, the police are involved now. We spoke to them this morning, and they assured us they will catch who is behind it.

I have no doubt he’s going to pay for what he did. Fucking with us in secret is one thing, but causing an accident on the track is another. Many others could have died. That is a problem for tomorrow, though, because today, I just want my bed and my boy.

“Have you been online?” Evan asks as he turns in the passenger seat to see us. “You guys are famous right now.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, someone took videos of the accident and caught Bones trying to save you and you collapsing in his arms. It’s trending everywhere. You’re about to be more famous than ever, Sky.”

Bones groans. “More assholes to fight off.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll cheer you on,” I joke, and he grins as he rolls his eyes.

“So, what happens now with the next races?” Bones asks, glancing between us. He knows how badly I wanted to win.

“There will be another,” Alek replies. “That was only the semifinal anyway. If they allow it, Sky will come back, but he will start last.”

“Give them all a miniscule chance.” I wink. “Don’t worry, your boy will still be a winner.”

Bones nods, but I can tell he’s worried, so I lean into his shoulder.

“Will you wear a nurse’s outfit today?”

“Not a fucking chance,” he mutters.

I pout. “But I’m sick.”

“You’re lucky I’m looking after you at all,” he scoffs, but he kisses my head. “We’ll be home soon, then you can sleep.”

“I’m not tired,” I say, but a yawn ruins my denial, and they all laugh.

When we pull up outside our apartment building, Bones gets out and grabs my stuff as I slide to the edge of the open door.

“Sky?” I glance back to Evan and Alek, Bones waiting just outside the car.

“He was really worried. I’ve never seen him like that. He was going to fight the entire hospital to get to you. Go easy on him,” Evan warns.

“Get some rest, brother,” Alek calls.

“Thank you for looking after him,” I tell them as I let Bones help me out and guide me toward our apartments. I need to connect them or buy another one for us.

We practically live together now, so we might as well have one place we can call home. Maybe I should ask him? Nah, I’ll just do it or move everything into mine.

By the time we make it inside, my body is twinging in pain. Bruises cover nearly every inch of me, and whatever drugs they gave me are still in my system. Bones helps me into bed and then snuggles into my side, and before I know it, we are both asleep.

I wake up sometime later to the room being dark and Bones snoring at my side. Slipping from the bed, I open my drawer, pull out the ring sizer, and hurry around to the other side of the bed. Careful of his bandage palms, I slip it onto his finger like they showed me then hide it when he turns over. I make a mental note of the size before I shut the drawer and grab my phone as I head to the kitchen to grab a drink. I’m sipping a glass of water and scrolling through ring pages when he shuffles out.

“Sky?” The panic in his voice is adorable.

“Here, baby.” I lock my phone and drop it. “I just wanted a drink.”

“You should have woken me. I’d have gotten it for you,” he mutters. “You should be resting.”

“I’m injured, not dead.” I grin. “Besides, you need your sleep. You look exhausted.”

“Thanks,” he mutters as he heads over and pours a glass of water before hopping up on the counter next to me. I slip between his open legs and press my head against his chest, holding him. His arms and legs wrap around me, and we sit like this in the dark, reminding one another we are here and we are okay.

“Were you scared?” he whispers as I pull away to look at him. “When you had the accident?”

I’d be a liar if I said I wasn’t and I tell him as much. “Not for me, for you.”

He frowns. “Me?”

“Yeah. I knew if something happened to me, you would blame yourself and lock yourself down. You’d never let anyone close again so they couldn’t hurt you. You feel everything so deeply, angel, which is why it always hurts you so much, hence you shutting down. You have the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever met, so yes, I was scared.”

Cupping my face, he searches my eyes. “Skylar Warren, you are an idiot, but I love you.”

“Good.” I grin. “Because I’m aching, Nurse Bones. How about you kiss it all better?”

“We aren’t sleeping together, Skylar,” he states so firmly, I almost grin, but the desire in his eyes screams something else.

“Who said anything about sleeping?” I tease as I lick his lips. He tries to resist. “I need you, angel. All I keep seeing is you fighting flames to get to me. I need to remember we’re alive.”

“Your injuries?—”

“Aren’t important. They’ll heal.” I kiss him softly, and he whimpers. “You claimed me for everyone to see, so it’s time I staked mine, don’t you think?”

He huffs as he leans back with a grin. “Like you haven’t since the first moment we met?”

“Glad you caught on.” I pull him to the edge of the counter and lift him with my good arm.

“Sky,” he murmurs. “Your arm.”

“I only need one to fuck you, angel. Don’t worry.” I wink as I carry him back to bed. When I lay him down, however, he pulls me after him and carefully arranges me against the headboard.

“Let me do all the work,” he murmurs as he straddles my lap. “Just lie back and let me take care of you.”

My hands meet his hips as he strips us so we are both naked. Reaching over to the bedside table, he uncaps the bottle of lube and covers my cock, sliding his hand up and down until my head falls back. The pain in my body is forgotten under his expert touch.

“Angel,” I murmur. “Fuck, you’re driving me crazy. Please.”

I rarely beg, and his eyes flare as he releases my dick and slides forward. His hands hit the headboard so as not to injure my shoulder as he lifts. With my one good hand, I help guide him down. He works himself onto my length, his hot, tight ass wrapping around my cock before he lifts and lowers, taking me deeper each time until I’m buried, and we both pant.

Leaning down, he kisses me as he starts to move. He sets a slow pace as he fucks me, bouncing on my cock while I suck his tongue. He pulls away, his head falling back, and my gaze sweeps down his incredible body. Watching his inked skin roll above me while his hot ass grips me makes my balls ache. I fight off my pending release, letting him ride me.

His gaze clashes with mine as he slides one hand down his chest and circles his dick, stroking himself as he fucks me.

“Angel,” I groan. “You look so fucking good above me.”

“I know.” He smirks. “You love watching me, don’t you?”

I nod, unable to speak as I stave off my pleasure, wanting this to last forever, but then he reaches down and rolls my balls. I groan his name as I pull him down, burying deep inside him, and he leans down and kisses me as I fill him with my cum. When his hand jerks between us, he whimpers into my mouth and spills over my stomach.

Our kiss turns sloppy, then he falls forward and lies on my chest. I wrap my good arm around him, kissing his head, our bodies still connected.

“You’re a good nurse,” I tease.

He chuckles as he lifts his head. “Don’t ever try to leave me again, Sky. I mean it.”

“Never,” I promise as I kiss his forehead. “I’ll always be right here.”

I’ve been forced to rest for three fucking days.

I’m going crazy. My only saving grace is having my boy at my side. I think that’s why he forced Alek and Evan to come over for a movie day—okay, apparently they volunteered, but still.

I’m sitting on the sofa next to them as Bones heads my way and hands me a drink before he goes to sit. I slap his ass out of habit, and he spins around, glaring as he rubs it while I blink innocently.

“Sky, that hurt,” he snaps.

“I didn’t hear you complaining last night when you begged for more until it hurt.” I smirk. His face turns bright red, and Alek groans while Evan laughs. Evan reaches over, and we high-five as Bones stomps into the kitchen to hide.

Winking at Evan, I get up and slip my arms around Bones, my lips brushing his ear. “How about I kiss it better tonight, angel?” He tries to elbow me, but I turn him and back him into the fridge. “I’ll make it better. I’ll eat your pretty ass as long as you forgive me and it doesn’t hurt anymore.”

“I can still hear, just so you know,” Alek calls as he turns the TV up. “Get a room!”

“This is our room!” I retort as I wiggle my eyebrows at Bones, who’s smiling now.

“We have an exclusive report that lead race car driver, Conall Frost from Blizzard, has been arrested in connection with the accident of fellow driver, Skylar Warren ? —”

We turn and hurry back to the couch, our eyes on the news. “It’s said Conall threatened Warren, saying he would not finish the race, and when the other car malfunctioned, it caused Skylar Warren to make the heroic choice between hitting a fellow driver or avoiding the other car and injuring himself.”

“I’m a hero.” I nudge Bones, who smacks me away.

“Police have not officially confirmed the charges, but it seems likely that Conall was behind the sabotage. Noah of Starfire Racing recently announced their garage was under attack by someone wanting to force them from the championship. We will keep you updated as we find out more, but it doesn’t look good for Team Blizzard and Conall.”

“Shit,” I mutter. “How the hell did they manage that? Surely there’s no proof.”

“I don’t know,” Alek mutters. “Last I heard, Noah was searching high and low for evidence, as was Red Check.”

“They can’t arrest him without something concrete, right?” Evan mutters, no doubt speaking from experience.

Bones is suspiciously quiet, and when I turn to him, he’s smirking proudly. “Angel . . . what did you do?”

“Me?” He glances at us. “I just called in some favors. It won’t stick forever, but it will provide enough time to find the evidence we need. I also might have asked some people inside to work him over a little.”

My eyes widen as I stare at Bones, who simply sips his coffee like a devilish villain.

“Jesus, I always knew he was crazy,” Alek mutters.

“Yeah, remind me not to piss him off,” Evan responds.

“Marry me,” I blurt.

Bones winks and takes another sip. “Now we just need to find evidence.” When I just stare, he sighs. “Nobody fucks with what’s mine, okay? Drink your tea, it’s good for your health.”

As he wanders back to the kitchen, I glance at Evan and Alek to see they are both just as confused.

“I’m afraid and turned on,” I admit.

“I’m just afraid,” Evan comments.

“Team foursome for the win,” Alek mutters, making us all laugh.
