29. Jax

Iwatched as River fled from the room. I tried to push my way past Tate and Ryder to reach her. I couldn’t let her just leave like that. Nikolai was an asshole for doing that to her and embarrassing her. But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy it.

Watching her squirm was such a beautiful sight. And when she came, I about exploded in my pants along with her. I wanted to make her writhe like that underneath me. The small sounds she made were intoxicating, and I wanted her to make them when she was wrapped around my cock.

I was so focused on getting to River I didn’t notice Knox coming up to our group. As I watched her push open the door, the defining sound of breaking bones hit my ears.

I turned to see Nikolai held in Knox’s grasp and his fist raised, ready to send another blow into his face.

“Break it up!” Tate screamed at the men. Trying to grab Knox off of Nikolai.

He threw two more punches into his face before Nikolai’s eyes darkened. His beast was coming out, and if we didn’t do something, he would shift and take the whole auditorium down with him.

“Fucking hell.” I groaned, abandoning my pursuit of River and jumping in to break up the fight between the two dragons. Ryder jumped in alongside me.

“Will you two get yourselves under control before one of you ends up shifting and destroying the school,” I hollered as I pulled on Knox.

They were on the ground now, Knox was on top of Nikolai. Both their faces were bloody, along with their knuckles. Ryder grabbed Nikolai by the shoulders and pulled just as Tate and I grabbed onto each of Knox’s arms.

Together we yanked him back and restrained him from going after Nikolai again. I looked him over, it looked like Nikolai got in a few good punches. His lip was busted and bleeding, and he had a nice gash along his forehead, along with a black eye that was starting to form.

I glanced over at Nikolai, who was shoving Ryder off of him. He didn’t come after Knox again like I thought he would. He just brushed himself off and shot daggers at the professor. His nose was definitely broken, and his lip was busted pretty bad.

“Don’t you ever attack me like that again,” Nikolai growled, spitting blood onto the ground.

“I won’t if you don’t embarrass Miss Moonstone like that again,” Knox seethed, jerking against our hold.

Nikolai looked at him in confusion before widening his eyes and laughing. I looked at Ryder before looking over at Tate. Both of them had matching blank expressions on their faces.

I looked back at Nikolai, watching as his blue eyes swirled with the dark blue of his dragon. “Is there something I’m missing here?”

Nikolai laughed darkly, “Would you like to tell him, professor? Or should I?”

I looked at Knox, his face was stark white, like he”d seen a ghost. He narrowed his eyes and clamped his mouth closed.

“Fine, Professor Knox here is a potential mate of our girl. Isn’t that right, professor?” Nikolai said with a sarcastic tone, grinning at Knox.

My head snapped in his direction. Did she really have four mates?

“Tell them, that’s why you got so defensive, it’s obvious now that I think of it. But, tell me, professor…were you pissed off because I did it during class, or was it because you were so turned on by the smell of her?”

Knox jerked in our hold again, and Nikolai dropped his head back and laughed. Holy shit he wasn’t kidding, Knox is her mate, too.

“That’s what I thought,” Nikolai chuckled. “You”re afraid to start the mate bond with her, and you were seconds away from losing control of your dragon and claiming her anyway. So, tell me, why is it you don’t want to start the bond with our girl?”

Knox scoffed, “I’m not a potential mate of hers.”

“Well, just remember, denial is a river in Egypt. Have a good day, professor. I’m going to get my girl and claim her in the way you refuse to do.”

I watched as Nikolai walked out, itching to join him and hunt down River. Once he was out of the room, Tate and I released our hold on the professor.

“I still don’t know why you”re denying yourself the mate bond,” Ryder told him.

“Pot, kettle,” Knox said, gesturing between him and Ryder.

“Wait, are you a mate of hers, too?” I asked Ryder. Did she really have five mates? If so, this was going to get really messy between us if we can’t learn to get along. I don’t think River will appreciate fights breaking out within her horde every other day.

“That has yet to be determined.” Ryder held up his hands in deference.

“Okay, I think we’ve all had a long day, and everyone should just go home and chill out,” Tate said, finally releasing his hold on the professor.

He yanked his arm out of my grasp before I had a chance to do the same.

“I think Tate is right. I’m going to go find River and make sure she’s okay,” I told them, turning and heading for the door.

I heard the three men engage in an angry, hushed conversation behind me, but I only had one thing on my mind.

That was getting to my mate. I knew there was only one thing she would want to do after what happened today and that was fly. So, I climbed into my truck and headed in the direction of River”s house.
