Chapter 34

Margo

A week later.

Liam and I had been making amazing improvement as friends, and you know… his physical therapy.

Whichever was more important.

I mindlessly strolled around as Liam did knee ups.

“Too slow.” I remarked as he sped up his speed.

“You’re revolting.” He said with a controlled smile.

“I hear a whole lot of talking, and not a lot of grunting!” I said in a sing song voice as I took a sip of my coffee.

I twirled around him as he laughed at a low tone, “What I’m hearing is… you miss hearing me grunt.” He continued to exercise as I ignored his comment.

I took a look over to the desk; Liam’s phone had been ringing for the past thirty minutes and each time it rang, my blood pressure rose up.

I knew it wasn’t his group of friends. Grayson and the other guys were practicing on the ice from my viewpoint, they had no access to their phones.

Sure, it could’ve been a family member or another person that isn’t of a women species. But I choose to be insane.

“You need to ask me a question or something?” Liam finished his work out before he walked over to take a drink of water.

“No, why?” I defended myself.

He turned around and leaned his body against the wooden desk.

“Are you sure there is nothing you would like to ask me to reduce the probability of that vein on your forehead from popping?” He folded his arms together as I turned back to look at him.

“You’re phone needs attention, or should I say…” I picked up his cell phone and took a look at the name, “Sammy.” I practically choked while saying the name.

“No way… are you jealous?” He asked with mock astonishment.

“If it’s the Sammy that I’ve heard of, then absolutely not. No one has anything nice to say about her.” I smiled thickly.

“Sammy Rodriguez?” Liam questioned.

Sammy Rodriguez was the scum of the Earth. She body shamed Juliette and Verina last year, then slept with the girl that Juliette was dating at the time.

Later on, Sammy then ended up befriending Juliette again only to home wreck and have sex with Juliette’s boyfriend at the time.

Sammy was very well known around the campus as the Hawthorne Hoe . As much as I disliked Brooks, all the credit for making up the nickname was all on him.

As much as I would love to stick up for all women like others would, Adrianna, Juliette, Verina and I believed in a different system, which was looking out for our best friends first.

Obviously, we weren’t monsters, at least we were working on that. If a girl looked like she needed help, or she was feeling uncomfortable by another man or woman we would step up and help.

But I would always stick up for my friends first no matter what.

Sammy had not only stole Juliette’s past two relationships, but she body shamed Verina. Verina practically hadn’t sized up from a double zero, ever since she heard about Sammy’s comments.

You might find this hard to believe but, at some point in the first semester, Sammy was a part of our friend group. Until we noticed that she craved a lot of male attention. She yearned for it like she would beg for water in a stranded desert.

Not only would she act like a complete moron near guys, but she was also incredibly selfish and inconsiderate of other’s feelings. She didn’t care if a man had a girlfriend, she didn’t care whether her words and actions hurt someone else.

The only thing she would ever care about is herself and if that body count of hers could stay in double digits by the time she reached twenty-one.

“I advice for you stay away from her.” I yawned as he tilted his head.

“Is she crazy or something?” Liam continued to click on her contact.

“That and if you want to get an STD.” I reassured him as he gave a disgusted look.

“Noted.” He said.

“Are there any other prospects?” I asked.

Liam looked at his phone with no excitement, “Yeah, a couple.”

“I could practically see the infatuation and excitement spilling out of you.” I said with false cheerfulness as he threw a glare at me.

“What can I say Raine, it’s hard to get over you.” He sounded slightly brittle as I couldn’t help but laugh at the awkward silence.

“Well, time for you to get over it, Charming, now list them off so I can give you my well needed advice.” I smiled as he gave an exasperated sigh.

“And you’ll be unbiased?” He turned around and pulled his phone closer to his face.

“The point of giving you my opinion is so that I can’t be unbiased.” I looked at him.

“Fine,” He gave a skeptical glance, “Justine Morcant?”

“She doesn’t just fool around; she wants a partner.” I answered.

“What makes you think I don’t want something serious?” Liam gave me a weary look as my lips thinned.

Liam smirked, “Neely Sung?”

“The one that’s still obsessed with her ex-boyfriend?” I inquired.

“Mae Candelaria?” Liam glanced upwards in annoyance as I mentioned how she was known to have slept with her stepbrother.

As he kept naming random girls from Hawthorne, the more he showed impatience. With the amount of times he had rolled his eyes, I was surprised they haven’t gotten stuck on the back of his head.

“I could hook you up with one of my friends.” I voiced as he laughed up a storm.

“I would rather you not be involved in any of my future relationships, so you playing cupid is definitely not happening.” He gave me a withering look.

My face could say it all, I was annoyed at his intense need to find a partner so quickly. Sure, I was the one who told him to find other girls but, in my head, I envisioned him to just sleep with them and leave.

Which obviously wasn’t a good thing, but I couldn’t help but face the wrath of jealousy that boiled in my body.

I wanted to feel anything, instead of just a slap in my face when I got back home to Ben. So I didn’t care about how angry it would make me to know that Liam was dating again.

I stuck around campus so much, I was glad no one questioned it.

I would just say I liked spending time at the trainer’s room, which I did. But avoiding my home address was the real answer. I was happy that Ronni had been taking time off so that I could continue working.

My volunteering hours had almost finished because of the amount of hours I logged in with helping Liam and his damn knee.

Which honestly could’ve been the best thing to happen to us and our relationship together.

“Fine, I get it. You want to find your Cinderella on your own.” I gave a heaved sigh.

I went to look at my clipboard and noticed all of Liam’s physical therapy had only one more day to go before he could get back on the ice.

“Looks like you could be back on the ice by the next game.” I expressed as his eyes widened and his fists shot up in the air.

“No way?!” He exclaimed as I laughed.

“Yeah, you come in for your last hour tomorrow. Then, I just need to write your evaluation, and you are going to be saying your farewells to the trainer’s room… I hope.” I said with skepticism.

“Yeah, trust me I will try and not be back here any time soon.” He assured me.

“Geez, just tell me you hate me next time.” I joked as Liam walked closer to me once more.

His hand came up and fixed my hair, “I know you hate it when your hair looks nothing more than perfect.” He noticed as I hesitantly pulled away.

“Any plans this weekend?” I coughed out as he smiled.

“No, not much just hanging out with the guys. I might visit Chris’s brother; I haven’t seen him lately.” He informed as he packed his things.

I realized that when Liam and I had made this pact, it was solely so we could work together through his physical therapy. But since it was ending, it was a hard pill for me to swallow knowing that we might not have the same relationship after.

He was hardly going to see me and one day when he does find another girl, there was no excuse for us to still be friends.

Because at the end of the day, we could preach to the choir that we were just friends, we knew deep down it was the last rope of hope for us.

He started walking up to the exit with a wide smile, was he not a bit sad that we weren’t going to hang out anymore?

“Thanks for all the help, Raine.” He winked before exiting.

I shouldn’t feel like he was stepping on my heart but that’s what it sure felt like.
