Chapter 39
Liam
“ L iam! Liam!” I heard a faint voice from a far.
As my opponent crashed on the ground as my eyes found Verina screaming from the crowded room.
This wasn’t a place that she should be at. I hopped out of the cage, my body rammed through everyone just to get to Verina and the guys behind me followed.
Chris got to her first, for him to supposedly not like her, her body was easily cradled in his arms.
Tears streamed down her face as she had a wave of panic.
“Some tall guy took Margo.” She cried.
Suddenly my eyes went into a blurred rage. My body heaved like an angry animal. My fists bawled up, and I couldn’t hide the worry on my face.
“What.” I said, not meant for it to sound like a question.
“He was tall, he had a tattoo with a snake–– that’s all I can remember.” She said with a hurried tone.
Verina gripped on to Chris’s body like he was her lifeline. One look at Grayson and Neil, they already started searching for her, I didn’t have to say anything.
What on earth was going through her right mind to be in one of New York’s most dangerous towns. I shook my head in annoyance and distraught.
I turned my head and took off, I only knew of one man that Verina described, he only came here for one purpose, and it was to gather girls and trade them off for brothels.
I ran through the swarmed crowds, my legs had led me to a dimmed room, so much rage still filled me that I just kicked the door once, it broke.
There she was. The man had his hand wrapped around Margo’s wrist. She looked so fragile next to him, like a porcelain doll next to Godzilla.
Margo hadn’t registered my presence yet as she screamed, yanking her hand away from him.
My heart pounded in my chest; without a second thought I lunged at the man. My fists flew at his figure. He quickly threw Margo to the side; she was caught by Neil and Grayson who followed me, apparently.
My adrenaline surged through me as I threw a punch at the man’s nose, then threw another punch at the side of his face. He had managed to land a few blows of his own towards me.
I looked back at Margo’s terrified face. My rage intensified as I looked at her bruised wrist. I tackled the man to the ground and pinned him down.
“You stay the fuck away from her.” I shouted with fury. The man underneath me struggled, but my determination had not disappeared yet.
I squeezed my fist tighter and pounded his face with my knuckles. I landed multiple hits as he groaned in pain, his blood had splattered all over my face, the floor and down to his chest.
“Liam, stop you’ll kill him in two more hits.” Neil informed me as I raised my right fist next to my face.
I threw one final, powerful punch.
I got up and stumbled next to Margo who held my body close, I could feel her shaking.
“Are you okay?” I asked.
She nodded.
The man laid there; his body twitched a few times before he coughed up more blood.
“Leave.” I demanded as he weakly stood up and ran away stumbling.
He left through the back door, I turned towards Grayson, Neil, Chris, Verina and Margo.
“We need to call the police.” Margo freaked out as she pulled out her phone.
I pulled her phone away, “No, this whole fight is illegal. We can’t call the cops.”
“Well, we can’t just let him get away!” She screamed at me as I sighed.
“We just did.” I said plainly.
Margo went from looking worried and scared shitless to a hue of red, plastered all over her face.
“You guys shouldn’t be here.” I put my hands on her shoulders as she shook her head.
“ YOU shouldn’t be here!” She said with mock astonishment, “Do you understand how dangerous you fighting in that cage is! Let alone you just got your knee healed up!”
I felt my jaw tighten as Margo continued to yell at me.
“What I do now is none of your business.” I hissed as her body pulled back from me.
It looked like she just heard a sentence that she never thought would leave my mouth.
“You’ve made that really clear.” She plainly muttered.
I couldn’t help but explode, my heart was ready to jump out at her and yell.
“Did I tell you to come to this fight?!” I asked.
“No.”
“You aren’t my girlfriend anymore Margo!” I exclaimed as her mouth quivered.
“This feels like a back and forth with you.” I laughed.
“You gave away the rights to care about me this much, the moment you said yes to Ben’s proposal. But you can’t help but be selfish. I don’t want to be your toy that you play with when you feel alone Margo.” I licked my lips and threw my hands up.
A brief silence passed as she looked at me with pure heart break in her eyes, I knew the look all too well. I gave her the same one before.
“It’s just not my job anymore.” I said with simple directness.
“Okay.” She choked out.
“What are you doing here looking for me, when you should be with the man you’re going to marry.” I finished as she closed her eyes.
She moved her gaze, away from me to the ground.
“You’re right. I don’t know why I thought it was okay to come.” She said in a voice, soft with affection. “So maybe I should just go.”
Margo walked out of the back door, seconds later Verina followed her out.
I took a breath.
“That was a bit––” Neil opened his mouth.
“––I know.” I sighed.
“You nearly killed a guy.” Grayson mentioned as I looked at him with a withering expression.
“That makes the both of us.” I muttered.
