Chapter 47

Margo

I wanted to be with him, I wanted to be there when he woke up and hold his hand while he was conscious.

I wanted and yearned to tell him that I was tired of the games and tired of pretending that I didn’t think about him every second we were apart.

I had lost my heart to Liam Brookshire.

I sat down beside him, my hand trembled slightly as I reached for his. The warmth of his skin against mine felt like a lifeline, grounding me in a moment that felt surreal.

His eyes fluttered.

“Thank god, you’re okay” He whispered, his voice hoarse but filled with an emotion that made my heart clench.

“I should be the one saying that” I managed to say, my voice soft. “How are you feeling?”

“Better now,” He replied with a weak smile, his thumb gently caressing the back of my hand. “I’ve missed you.”

“I’ve missed you too,” I admitted, my eyes welled up with tears. “More than you know.”

For a moment, we just sat there, holding hands and gazing at each other, the world outside the hospital room fading away. It felt like we were the only two people in existence, bound by a connection that defied explanation.

“I thought that I had lost you, Liam.” I said finally, my voice broke. “I love you.”

His grip on my hand tightened, and he pulled me closer, his lips brushing against my forehead. “I love you too, Raine. But we are still going to need a bit more time.”

“Why, I want to be with you now.” I muttered as he closed his eyes.

I looked down at our intertwined fingers, his other hand had crept down my chin to make my eyes lock with his.

“Raine, I know what Ben did to you, it explains the bruises, the hesitation in your body language.” He breathed out.

I felt tears running down my cheeks. I was upset that he knew, I was upset that anyone knew. I was so embarrassed that everyone had the knowledge that I was beat to a pulp every night.

I broke down.

“I didn’t know what to do, I kept it a secret because I thought it was the only solution to help my family. We were going broke, Liam.” I heaved out.

“What was I supposed to do?!” I cried out as he moved closer to me.

“I don’t know what I would’ve done in your situation… I can’t give you advice. I just know that I would’ve raised hell on earth if I knew before he was in jail.” Liam seethed.

“I don’t need justice Liam, I just need you.” I swallowed.

“You have me Raine, no one has ever had me like you have me.” He voiced.

I smiled.

“I’m scared that you won’t be able to deal with how badly I was physically hurt by Ben.” I let out as he hushed me.

“That’s why I’m telling you to take time, Raine.” He mumbled.

“You say you want me, you already have me. I’m not going anywhere, I can’t leave you, I don’t think it is humanly possible for me to leave you.” He laughed as I raised our holding hands up to my lips and kissed his palm.

“You don’t have to scared of me going away. You can’t lose me that easily Raine, if you don’t recall my pining.” He reassured as I rolled my eyes.

“But I did almost lose you, you were badly injured.” I explained.

Liam looked around the hospital, “But I’m alive and I’m sure that I’ll be spending more time with you at the trainers office, if you’ll have me.”

“I’ll check my schedule.” I joked.

Liam lifted our hands over to his mouth and kissed my bruise that was located around my wrist.

I sighed as a tear fell.

“We can get through this together, Raine.” He grinned.

As I rested my head on his chest, and listened to the steady beat of his heart, I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, we would face them together.

And for the first time in a long while, I felt a sense of peace.

“I can get through anything with you, Charming.” I breathed out.
