29. Chapter Twenty-Seven
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
KIRK
K irk watched as Betsy left with Bonnie and Storm. Was he a little worried about her? Yes, he was but she needed to do this. He couldn’t always be there for her when they came over. Sometimes he would need to drop her off with Miles or Rogan while he did some work.
He was the hacker for the Ricci Crime Family, but he also went out and helped when they needed extra people. He was good with a gun and his knuckles. There had been several times he got to interrogate and torture people. It came in handy when he needed to let out his frustrations.
Betsy walked into the room with the other girls. He saw the way she flinched when Rogan snapped at her. It made him angry just thinking about it. She had done nothing to deserve that. But what got him even more was when she called him sir like she was on autopilot.
“What just happened?” Miles asked. “Is she okay?”
Kirk had looked into it late one night, trying to figure out what her dad did to her. The whipping marks were raised, like he had done it several times, never letting them properly heal.
Why had he done it?
There wasn’t much on her dad and what he did. He knew she got rid of most of it, but there were still some police reports that gave a detailed account of the last time he hurt her. She had spent over a month in the hospital.
Alone.
What was going through her head at the time? Did anyone visit her?
One thing she didn’t get rid of was where he was located. Even if she had, he would still be able to find him. He knew Betsy’s last name, and it matched the bastard who hurt her.
“It was her reacting to how Rogan acted,” Kirk replied. “She’ll be okay.”
Kirk was going to make sure of it. He would help fight off the nightmares if she had any.
“What happened to her to react that way?” Raynar asked.
“I can’t say much since it’s not mine to talk about, but her dad did some stuff.”
Every single time he thought about it, the anger came back. He wanted to kill that bastard. He deserved to die a slow and painful death for everything he did to Betsy.
“Is he still alive?” Rogan asked.
"He is still alive," Kirk relaxed in the chair. "He's only a state away."
One singular state. Did Betsy know he was only a state away? Part of him thought she would know, but the other part thought maybe she put everything behind and never looked back.
Either way, he was going to keep her safe from her father. If he could really call the guy that. No man should be called a father if he beats his kids.
Kirk had done some digging into her father. He had been a doting husband and father until her mother died. That's when things changed. There were no official records of her getting hurt before the last one, but he knew.
Her back proved that she had taken years of abuse from him. Why had she stayed quiet? Had she stayed quiet or did she speak up? Did people believe her?
He shook his head. If she said something, then the people didn't believe her, not until the last time.
The last time he had almost killed her. Whipping her back and legs, punching her, and giving her little cuts all around her body.
Kirk wished he could have been there for her at the hospital and after. He would have taken care of her and shown her that everything was going to be okay.
Was that why she lived in the bad part of town? Was that her excuse or did she really not have enough money to move?
Kirk knew New York was expensive, but she had done jobs to get paid. What else was she spending the money on?
Betsy had a lot of money in her bank account, several bank accounts. Was she saving up to move to a different state or country? Did she know her dad was only a state away and that was why she was moving?
"Do you want me to send Dane or Taj after him?" Rogan asked.
Kirk shook his head. "No. I'm going to be the one who hurts him. I'll just need someone to watch over her while I am gone. I want to take my sweet time with her dad."
It was a risk talking about this right now, especially when Betsy was in her room. Were they having a good time together or was she worried and not having fun? Should he go check on her and make sure everything was going okay?
"She can stay with us while you are gone. I will be sending Dane and Taj with you though," Rogan said.
"She can also stay with us if she wants. Either house, we can get the girls together and they can have a sleepover. help distract her while you are gone," Miles sat up straighter.
He knew he could count on them for this. He had watched over Storm and Bonnie a couple times while they were doing things. Granted, it was only for a couple hours in the day and not over night or for several days.
Kirk didn't know how long it was going to take him or how long her dad was going to last. But he wanted to have enough time to make him really understand what he put Betsy through.
"Thank you. I will probably take you up on the offers," Kirk spoke.
"But?" Rogan asked.
"I don't know if I am going to do it or not. I don't know if she knows that he is only one state away or if he is still alive," Kirk explained. "He had been in prison for a couple years, but got out early on good behavior. I don't know if she is keeping up with him or not."
All three of them stared at him. He had been going back and forth on what he should do.
"I don't know how she feels about him. Does she still have a little soft spot because he is her dad? I don't think she does, but I don't want to do something she will hate me for."
Though, he figured she wouldn't be mad at all with everything he had done.
"I want to do it so badly. I want him to feel a little bit of what he did to her all those years," Kirk growled towards the end.
"So do it and then tell her after. She may be mad at you and she may be relieved you did it. Either way, if she is mad at you, she'll forgive you a couple days later," Raynar spoke. "Just explain why you did it and I bet she'll understand."
He was betting on her not being angry. How could she still feel something towards him when he had been so cruel to her?
"What about the guy who threatened her?" Miles asked. "Have you found him yet?"
"I'm still looking for him. I thought I had a lead, but he was good and kept his facial features hidden from the cameras. Even went as far as putting stuff on his face so the front desk man wouldn't recognize him," Kirk explained. "He's called and texted Betsy."
"Called?" Rogan asked.
"Yeah, called and just was breathing. To scare her, but he did just that. Scared her so badly."
This was another thing he got angry about from just thinking about it. He was frustrated that Betsy didn't feel safe to come to him when it first happened.
He knew she said he would be disappointed in her, and he slightly was but he wanted her safe. Her not looking into people was in the past and he was going to make sure she never did that again.
"He also used a burner phone to call and text. I tried looking into that, but there are so many places that sell burner phones. He could have made it and if he didn't, he probably paid cash and had stuff on his face. or he had someone else buy it for him which would be another dead end," Kirk groaned.
Normally it was easy for him to look into things and find people. Only a couple of times was he actually really frustrated with things and this was one of them.
This guy was good and it annoyed him. Betsy was in danger and he didn't want that.
"I can ask some people I know if they have heard anything," Miles said.
"Thank you, I would appreciate that," Kirk replied.
He could feel a headache coming on just thinking about this subject. He had worked hours and hours trying to find out who this could possibly be. Kirk had hacked into several cameras, trying to figure out where the guy came.
But the guy was clever. He knew where cameras were and didn't place anything where people could identify things.
His car?
Positioned just right to where when he pulled up and drove off the cameras didn't pick up the license plate.
Kirk had changed that after he realized there were blind spots. before it didn't matter much because he had taken extra precautions for him on his computer and when he did work. But now he had Betsy with him and she was in danger.
He had spent hours redoing a lot of things to make everything safer for Betsy. He wasn't going to chance anything, especially when it came to her, his Little girl.
"I can ask around and have Ethan ask if he has heard anything about her or who is after her," Rogan finally spoke.
Kirk was never going to get used to Rogan talking about Ethan fucking Montgomery. They had been enemies for years, still were, but were getting on better terms since Bonnie was his sister.
"You and Ethan getting closer?" Kirk cracked a smile.
Rogan glared. "We are on friendly terms only because of Bonnie."
"Not because you don't have anything to hate about each other anymore?" Kirk asked.
It was amusing to see Rogan have to get along with Ethan. Everyone in the Ricci Crime Family were still wary around Ethan and his men, but they had a truce right now. As long as Bonnie was with Rogan nothing was going to happen.
Or so they hoped.
"No. We still don't like each other. He is still keeping secrets. Especially about him being involved in skins or not," Rogan growled.
That was one thing they didn't get involved in. Trading of skins.
"Still nothing?" Miles asked.
"I've tried looking into it, but the girls disappear once they get into the United States. Makes me think he has buyers already lined up and he just ships them to the people right away. No paper trail. They are doing amazing at hiding things," Kirk said.
He had looked into it for several months and still was. But there was nothing on them and their skin business.
"Shit. We have to help those girls out somehow," Raynar whispered. "there has to be a way."
"Ethan told me not to ask anymore so I haven't, but it doesn't make me feel good about it," Rogan sighed.
Silence filled the room. The Ricci Crime Family had a code and one of the rules was not to harm innocent women and children. Knowing Ethan could be selling women and children didn't sit well with any of them. Bonnie was now part of the family and that made Ethan always close to them.
"They are awfully quiet in there. Do you think they are going to get themselves into trouble?" Miles asked.
"Let's hope not," Rogan groaned. "I don't need her crying."
Kirk cracked a smile. Rogan hated crying, but he was getting better at it.
"I kind of hope they do. I want to spank Storm."
Kirk rolled his eyes. "You can spank her any time."
"True, but I do like her naughty behavior sometimes. Reminds me that she has gotten more comfortable with me to show that side."
Kirk wanted that with Betsy so badly. Maybe one day.
