Epilogue
Beau
2 Years Later
“ W hat about Patchwork Leather?” Kat looked up from the table. “Should we invite Randall and Leonard?” There was a tilt to her lips.
“Sure.” I nodded. “It’s probably shock the hell out of Leonard.”
We both broke out in laughter.
I never did get the sponsorship from Patchwork Leather. It wasn’t worth it to jump through the hoops. I never told them we weren’t engaged. I just didn’t pursue them. Turned out I didn’t need to. Hailey was right. She had sponsorships lined up that covered everything I thought I needed from Patchwork. I still wore their leather, but I wasn’t concerned about proving anything to anyone.
“Are you nervous?”
“About marrying you?” She had to be kidding. “Absolutely not.”
“Not about the wedding. That’s still months off.” She shook her head. “I was talking about starting your final season.”
We talked about it, and I made the decision that this would be my last tour. I didn’t want to be gone so much once we got married, and I had been doing more at the office. It made the most sense for me to hang up my saddle.
“I’ll miss it, but I’m not nervous.”
She stood up and came over to sit on my lap. “I’m going to miss you.” I was leaving for my first trip in a couple of days.
“You could come with me,” I suggested. I had been trying to get her to take some time off and travel with me since we first got together. “You could put the camera I got you for Christmas to good use and finally film that documentary.”
“About what?”
“A top-notch rider who chooses love over the rodeo and rides off into the sunset with the woman of his dreams.” I pitched.
“Wow.” She smiled. “You really are just as cocky as I always knew you were.”
“Don’t be like that, Kitty Kat.” She still hated that name unless we were in bed.
Her eyes narrowed. “I could still call this whole thing off.”
“Come on, Kitten.” I wrapped my arms around her. “You know big Beau will do anything for you.”
“Still waiting to see you kick your own butt.” She laughed.
“I’m about to retire. There will be no butt-kicking.” I kissed her softly. “Come with me.” I didn’t want to do this without her. I never wanted to do anything without her.
She pinched up her lips. “I suppose I could ask for some time off.”
“Really?”
“It might be nice to dip my toe into the documentary space.” She bit her lip.
“Oh, Kitten.” I jumped up with her in my arms and spun around. “This is going to be amazing.”
“Do you really think so?”
“I know so. This was a chance for both of us to live out a dream together. I can’t think of anything I want more except for you.” I pressed my lips to hers.
“You’ve got me.” She tightened her arms around my neck. “Say the word, and I’m yours.”
“Word.”
The smile that covered her face radiated a joy I hoped I always inspired.
“I’m yours.” She whispered.
“I’m yours too.” I always had been.
