Chapter 9

CHAPTER NINE

CHLOE

O ne date turns into another, followed by several more. The more I get to know him, the more I fall in love with him each day and can’t imagine not spending the rest of my life with him.

Even though sometimes he has some odd quirks, like when I caught him marking his territory as a dog around my house. That one I still haven’t let him live down and that happened right after our first date.

He asked me last night to go on a surprise date and I’m not sure what he has up his sleeve. I feel nervous, yet excited because each date has been magical with him.

As I take one last look in the mirror, I smile and feel genuinely happy.

I rush out of my room and head straight to the front door after grabbing my purse. Once I open the door, he is standing there with a bouquet. My smile grows wider.

“You look so beautiful,” he whispers under his breath. “These are for you.”

I reach out and take the bouquet with tears in my eyes. “Thank you. I’ll be right back after putting these in some water.”

I practically run to get them into water in a vase, then come back to the door. He is standing just inside the door with a grin that isn’t quite from ear to ear, but I can still tell he’s happy and thinking of something.

He produces a blindfold when I’m close enough and tells me to trust him, which I do. I buzz with excitement as he helps me out of the house and to the car.

It doesn’t take long for us to get wherever he is taking us and then, when we come to a stop, he quickly comes around to open my door.

As soon as I’m outside, I’m trembling from how excited I am. But then he removes the blindfold, and I feel confused.

“What are we doing back here at the park where they held the pet adoption?”

He takes me by the hand and leads me to the place where he had rammed my legs to get my attention. When he kneels down onto one knee, I feel tears trailing down my face.

“Chloe, will you marry me?”

In his hands is the shiniest ring I have ever laid eyes on.

“I know it hasn’t been that long, but I can’t imagine my life without you. The day you took me home as your dog is the day I became yours.”

I glance down at the ring between his fingertips and know my answer already. “Yes, I’ll marry you.”

When he slides the ring on my finger, a burst of magic escapes me, which I laugh about.

I’m so happy that I can’t contain myself.

“How about we get married in a month? Do you think that will work? Can you get everything ready in time?” He asks with the biggest grin.

“Yes, I think that’s perfect.”

I lean forward before he can get up from kneeling and plant a soft kiss against his lips.
