Epilogue

CHLOE

Three years have passed since I invited Bastian in for lunch and about two and a half years since he asked me to marry him.

We’ve not been apart since.

We only dated for a few precious months before turning around and getting married a month later. Neither of us could stand to be apart.

As for Nova, she has grown used to him. Sometimes they still fight around, but it’s more playful than it was at first when he was a dog.

It’s odd to think he took the form of a dog just so he could be close to me, but I have since forgiven him and found it to be cute.

“What are you thinking about?” He asks as he grips my hand in his.

It’s barely past daybreak, yet here we are, sitting on the front porch in our rocking chairs. His hand is warm in mine. “I’m thinking about you being a dog.”

He turns his head to the side, his shaggy black hair hanging in his eyes. “Yes, and? Do you miss it? You got to keep me as your pet for three weeks, but we’ve been husband and wife for over two years.”

“I think it’s funny, but no, I wouldn’t want you to spend too much time as an animal, though some are quite interesting.”

His brows furrow as he thinks about it. “Oh, you’re thinking about me being a cat to see if I could win Nova over. She still hates me and I think it made her hate me worse.”

I only laugh because I know she’s been difficult. Every once in a while, though, she curls up behind his knees in bed, so I think she likes him more than she’ll ever show while awake. It’s only when she thinks no one is looking.

“You two will get over it one day. I just know you’ll eventually be fine with each other.”

He smirks and looks out at the yard. “One day.”

Oddly, she comes across the porch and hops into his lap, curling up and closing her eyes. We both look down in shock at her.

“I guess one day is today, then.”

He pulls my hand up to his lips and plants a gentle kiss. “Yes.”

Closing the distance between us, I plant a kiss on his lips. It’s quick and sweet, but as soon as I pull away, he is leaning toward me and kissing me again. Once we kiss, we can never get enough of each other and I hope it isn’t something that ever dies.

Right as I’m enjoying the feel, he jerks back with a quick groan.

“What?”

When he turns to look at his lap, I do the same. Nova has her paw on his stomach with her claws extended. Her eyes are still shut, though.

He turns to look at me with a grin. “Well, I don’t know what this is about, but it is new and a little dangerous.”

“She’ll get over it.”

I snatch my hand from his and place both hands on the sides of his face as I lean in again to kiss him. There are a series of hisses, groans, and yelps, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Tasha Creed is a small town author from a rural community in Tennessee. Her love of writing was inspired by her love of reading that resurfaced in her adult years. She loves everything dark fantasy with werewolves and vampires being her main favorites. Fae is quickly growing on her, though. When not writing, she can be found playing video games with her son or sometimes, on the rare occasion, curled up with a good book.
