I stare at the door after she slams it. My heart cold, and sunken to my stomach.
She came here to do a nice thing, and I just threw it back in her face. I should leave, she’d be far better off without me, but I’m far too selfish for that.
“Freya,” I call out as I rush after her, swinging it open and finding her sitting on the top step again. She’s sobbing into her hands, and I hate that I’m the cause of that as I move up behind her.
“Stand up,” I whisper.
“I was gonna call someone but I haven’t got a?—”
“Stand up,” I tell her again, this time in a voice stern enough for her to raise her hand and use the stair rail to drag her back on her feet.
“You're right, I was jealous,” I confess, swallowing my pride before she turns to face me. Her pout lifts into a smile.
“Knew it.” She shrugs, shoving past me, and strutting back into my apartment.
“You got nothin’ to say back to that?” I feel all my anger bubble back to the surface as I chase her inside, slamming the door and wondering how this girl manages to get me so reactive.
“What do you want me to say?” She shrugs, taking a seat on the couch and picking up the pizza menu from the coffee table. “I don’t mind what we get as long as we add extra cheese to it.” She smiles up at me as if all that's happening between us is perfectly normal.
“Grrrrr.” I throw my hands in the air and head to the bathroom so I can take a shower.
I spend a long time under the cold spray, thinking about Saul and how he just lay on the ground with his brains blown out the back of his head. He was coming home to make things right, and he never made it. He was keeping someone he loved from us ‘cause he was scared about how we’d react. Now that he’s gone, that all seems so stupid.
I eventually get out and wrap a towel around my hips and when I open the door I see that Freya has helped herself to one of my t-shirts and is sitting on the couch flicking through the TV channels.
“I was wondering if I could use your cell. I wanna check in on Alicia.” She looks up at me, and her eyes trace over my body the same way they did when she got here
“Sure.” I take it from the table and hand it over.
“Her name’s saved under ‘Saul’s Sis’… don’t even think about it,” I explain as I head over to my chest of drawers.
“I’m assuming Saul was the one who saved it in there for you.” Freya laughs as she types out a text message, then places it down on the coffee table. I notice in the reflection of the mirror that she’s started making her way toward me and I remain still as her hands touch the outside of my arms and her lips touch the skin on my shoulder. It feels good, especially when she slowly moves her delicate little pecks all the way to my neck.
“Freya, what are you doin’?” I shake my head as my cock grows beneath the towel.
“I told you, I came here to make you feel better,” she whispers, grazing her nails down my spine and making it tingle.
“And you think fuckin’ me will make all this better?” I spin around before she can do anything else to distract me.
Freya looks hurt, and her lips move like she has something to say, but is speechless.
“Ruckus. I…”
“I don’t wanna be your fuck buddy, Freya. I’m in love with you.” The words come out, shocking me and her, and since I can’t take them back and I’ve come this far, I decide to let her have it all.
“You heard that right. I love you. I think I always have. And believe me, I’ve tried real hard not to.”
I watch her try to bite the sassy, little smile off her lips, and wait for her to say something clever.
“I love you, too.”
I’m ready to snap but, instead, I have to check I heard her right.
“You… what?”
“I. Love. You. Too.” She stretches up on her toes and wraps her arms around my neck.
“Freya, I didn’t tell ya that for you to say it back. I get that?—”
“I’m not just saying it back,” she interrupts me. “And I tried to ignore it, too. I even tried loving someone else. Didn’t turn out so well.” Her eyes drop from mine and I quickly lift up her chin so I can get them focused again.
“So what do we do about it? Because today made me realize that we can’t do nothin’.”
“I guess it’s time to tell my brother that you fucked his little sister and have been pining for her ever since.”
“Please… I have not pin–” I cut myself off when I see her smiling and realize she’s trying to make me bite. “We really have to tell him, don’t we?” Suddenly everything seems really serious.
“Well, I can’t be your old lady unless you do.” Freya’s shoulders shrug.
“And that's what you want?… To be my old lady? To stay here with me, and be mine?” I can see the cogs in her head turning while she looks at me and it feels as if there's something holding her back.
“That's what I want,” she whispers. I quickly lift her up and carry her straight to the bed.
“ Now you wanna fuck?” She tries getting smart with me as I lay her down on the mattress.
“No, Freya, I wanna love you.” I watch her smile turn serious as I move in to kiss those pretty lips. Taking my time to enjoy how soft they are as my fingers slide down her body and lift my t-shirt up her thighs.
“You’re fuckin’ mine, Freya Adams,” I whisper, pulling my lips from hers before kissing her jaw and neck. She lifts my tee all the way up and over her head, exposing those round, perfect tits, and when she lays back down I set to work kissing them too. “Say the words again.”
I look up at her as I suck one of her nipples into my mouth.
“I love you,” she whispers with a smile so bright that I decide whatever Wrath does to me, will be worth it.
“So, now that you’ve confessed your undying love for me, how are you planning on breaking the news to my brother?” Freya rolls onto her side and circles her fingers around my nipple ring. It’s morning but neither of us has done any sleeping.
“I wouldn’t go as far as to say undyin’.” I snatch her wrist in my hand and drag her on top of me. I should really let her get some sleep, but she looks far too happy, and far too pretty for me not to be inside her again.
My cock presses against her slick entrance without any guidance, and as she slides herself over me we both make a relieved moan.
“Fuck, that feels good,” I growl as her pussy holds me in its clutches and when she places her palms either side of my head and looks down at me, I know she’s got something on her mind.
“Did you have someone while I was away? And don’t be smart. I know you fucked a lot. What I mean is, was there someone special?” She tilts her head and looks as if I could hurt her with my answer.
“Princess, I’ve never had anyone in my whole life. You were the first, and you wounded me enough to ensure there would never be another.” I stroke the hair that's fallen in her face behind her ear and watch the way she smiles. Now would be a good time for her to tell me the real reason why.
“Do you think we’ll always fight?” She moves us off the subject, sounding curious and a little concerned.
“Ohhh, I hope so.” I smile up at her, I’ve come to the conclusion that the fact she drives me insane is one of the things I love about her.
“You're crazy,” she laughs, and even the slight move that causes her body to make has a euphoric effect on me. How was there ever a time when I thought I could deny myself this?
“I’m not crazy, darlin’, I just love the way you look when you're angry.”
“There you go again, Brody Jones. You keep using that L word. It’s like the floodgates have opened and you can’t stop.” I quickly flip her over so I’m the one in control.
“You know, you and my uncle are the only people I ever let call me by my real name.” I go to attack her neck with my teeth so I can hear her cute, little giggle but she holds me back.
“You have an uncle?” She stares up at me suspiciously.
“Yeah, but that doesn’t matter, especially not now.” I curse myself for dropping my guard, and hope I can distract her from it. Rolling my hips as deep into hers as I can, I keep the pace steady, making sure she feels every inch of me.
“Ruck, Burlusconi’s sister’s here an—” Corey swings my door open without knocking and we both look across at him as he stands in the center of the room with his eyes round, and his mouth gaping.
“Corey, get the fuck out!” I launch a pillow at him and he scurries out the door. I feel her body start shaking and, looking down, I see her hand covering her mouth as she chuckles.
“What could you possibly find funny about what just happened?” I ask her.
“Guess now, you really do have to tell my brother.” I slide her hand away so I can kiss her, and say a prayer for myself.
“Where are you going?” Freya asks. I’ve barely had time to catch my breath since we finished, but I have some damage control to do.
“To talk to Corey, I don’t want Wrath findin’ out about this from anyone other than me.” I find some jeans and pull them up over my ass.
“Relax, Corey isn’t gonna tell anyone straight away. There are things we need to talk about first.” She gathers up the bed covers, wrapping them around her and comes after me like a caterpillar.
“I was thinking that we should wait until you’ve dealt with the Reapers before we break this news to Aaron.” She bites her bottom lip.
“I don’t know… I’ve been feelin’ real bad, and I think the best way to do this is to just go in with it. Saul keepin’ secrets done him no favors, and now that things have changed between us, it’s only right we tell him.”
“Things haven’t changed, we’ve just got tired of denying it,” she tells me, with that cute smile on her face, again. “Just hear me out on this.” Freya pleads with her big, pretty eyes, and I nod for her to continue.
“We don’t know how he’s gonna take this, right?”
“Oh, I got a pretty good idea,” I assure her, not wanting to think too much about it.
“What I’m saying is, I don’t want either of you going into a fight with those men while your heads are somewhere else. Raze is gonna make a move soon, he’s got no other choice. The Reapers have got him against the wall and he has to strike.”
I listen to her, realizing I’ve spent the whole time I’ve known this girl underestimating her.
“Deal with the Reapers, then we tell him.” She nods her head as if it’s a solid plan.
“Fine, but if I survive all that, will you move in here with me?” I can see by her reaction that the suggestion surprises her, and it makes me wonder if I’m moving too fast. I have no idea how these relationship things work. I've never tried one before.
“You want us to live together?” The smile that breaks through her shock looks a lot like she’s contemplating it.
“Ya see any point in you livin’ anywhere else?” I shrug.
“How dreamy.” She rolls her eyes sarcastically as she spins around, dragging the trail of covers with her and gets back into bed.
“You know what I meant.” I’m torn between rushing off to find Corey and fixing my bad choice of words. I dash over to the bed and climb back on top of her, wrapping my arms around her and the covers she’s rolled up in.
“Yes, I want us to live together. I wanna come home and walk through the door to see ya wearin’ my clothes. I wanna hold you while you sleep, and wake up every mornin’ to you smilin’,” I confess.
“Just what kind of fairytale do you think you're living in? There is no chance in hell you're gonna catch me smiling in the morning. Not until I’ve had at least two coffees.”
“Darlin’, you don’t know how I’m plannin’ on wakin’ you up, yet.” I tease her lips with mine and when she takes the bait and leans into them I pull away. “So, is that a yes or a no?” I ask.
“It’s a yes. Now, go stop Corey from blabbing his big mouth to everyone about what he saw.” She looks to the door and I kiss her before I head out.
“Except the Burlusconi girl!” she calls after me. “He can tell her all about it.”
