Chapter 14

A loud clap of thunder woke me up out of my sleep. I rolled over and grabbed the remote from the nightstand. After electronically opening the blinds, I allowed the soothing sound of rain to relax me, but it wasn’t long before my door creaked open. I smiled. Like clockwork, the thunder had caused Callie to find her way to me.

She’d been afraid of storms since we were kids. Every time there used to be a bad one, she would hide in the closet or sleep with her parents. When we were together, I’d hold her until it passed. I used to take great pride in helping her feel safe. There was never anything romantic about having her in my arms. Now, I was sure that wouldn’t be the case.

“Remedy,” she called sweetly. When I didn’t respond, she groaned and climbed into bed. “I know you’re awake. ”

“What do you want?”

“You know what I want.” She snuggled against me and tossed her leg over me. “Can I sleep with you tonight? I’m scared.”

As I wrapped my arms around her, I kissed her forehead. “You know you never have to ask.” A beat of silence passed before I asked, “Whose bed were you crawling into while you were in Memphis?”

“My boyfriend when I had one. When I was single, Luci’s.” Her giggle made me chuckle. “Why? You jealous?”

“Maybe. I like being your protector.”

“Well, if it makes you feel better, I always wished they were you.”

“Mhm. Now you just stroking my ego.”

“I’m serious, pooh!”

I felt myself blushing and couldn’t believe such simple words could have that kind of power over me. “You feeling better?” I asked, tightening my grip around her.

“Yes.” She kissed my chest. “Thank you.”

“Always. You know I got you.”

I thought back to my conversation with Armor earlier and decided to talk to her about it. It had been driving me crazy. She woke up the next morning and acted as if nothing had happened. Meanwhile, I hadn’t been able to get the night out of my head. It played on constant repeat. All I could hear was the sound of her moans and wet pussy. All I could taste was her cum. I couldn’t imagine how sprung I’d be if we had sex, and that caused me to question if we even needed to take it to that level.

“I wanna ask you something, and I don’t want you to get embarrassed.”

“Oh God. What is it? ”

“The night we went to the car show… You don’t remember how the night ended?”

“No. I don’t remember anything after the actual race. Why? Did I do something crazy?”

“Uh… Depends on your definition of crazy.” I laughed. Thunder cracked the sky. She tensed, and I held her closer. Rubbing my hands up and down her back, I kissed the top of her head. “You’re safe, pookie.”

She released a shaky breath. “Talk to me. Tell me what I did that night.”

“Well, you climbed into the back seat and played with your pussy.”

She shot up. “ What ?” Her tone was low and clipped as she clutched her chest. “You’re joking, right?”

“Nah.” I sat up and leaned against the headboard. “I wouldn’t joke about no shit like that.”

“Oh my God.” She covered her face with her palms as her head shook. “I’m so embarrassed. I can’t believe I was so drunk that I don’t remember that.”

“Yeah, I knew you were drunk as soon as you did that shit. Then you passed out.”

I laughed and lowered her hands from her face.

“Did you… did we…”

“We didn’t have sex. We didn’t kiss. I didn’t touch you. Well… I licked your cum off your fingers but that was it.”

I couldn’t quite describe the sound she released but it made me laugh. Callie hopped out of bed, but the sound of thunder and strike of lightning made her hop right back inside. It took everything inside of me not to laugh harder. She was clearly in distress. This was the perfect time to have this conversation because the storm was the only thing keeping her from leaving .

We stared at each other with only the stars, moon, and streetlights brightening the room.

“For what it’s worth, you taste good.”

“Remedy!” She hit my chest and I chuckled.

“What?”

“This is serious!”

“It’s not that big of a deal.”

“The hell it’s not. That wasn’t normal. Best friends don’t… pleasure themselves in front of each other. And they for damn sure don’t lick each other’s… essence.”

“Oh, so I’m the weird one now?”

“I’m just saying. If you played with your dick in front of me—”

My voice lowered an octave when I asked, “You wouldn’t taste me, Callie?”

Callie blinked rapidly and swallowed hard. “Yes,” she whispered. “I’d swallow every drop of your cum.”

A low moan escaped me, and my dick instantly hardened. Pulling it out of my boxers, I stroked it.

“Spit on it,” I commanded.

She did. To my surprise, she replaced my hand with hers. Our eyes remained locked as she stroked me until I came. And as she said she would, she swallowed every fucking drop. Before I could fully even process what was happening, she hopped out of bed again. This time, not even the rolling thunder was enough to get her to stay in my room.

For a while, I wrestled with if I wanted to go after her or not. She responded the way I thought she would, but the sexual act was a welcomed surprise. It was clear she wanted me but was either afraid to or didn’t want to.

A million questions swirled in my mind. Did she not want to because of our friendship? Did she not want to because of my past? Did she not want to because she didn’t believe I was good enough for her?

Tonight wasn’t the time to try and dissect that, so instead of going after her, I showered, rolled up a blunt, cut the TV on, and got back in bed.
