11. It’s Her

“You have made a decision,” Mother murmured over her tea cup.

I nodded, setting my cup down on the low lying table. “She is the one, Mother, and I can’t keep this from her any longer.”

“Unfortunately, you can’t tell her the truth just yet. ”

“She deserves to know,” I ground out. “I love her.”

Mother tutted, sipping once more on her tea before placing it down. “You can’t just undo the magic that is already in place, my love. The pea has been removed, but the potion will not reverse until you share a kiss, as you well know.”

I slammed my fist down on the armrest. “I can’t kiss her with this deceit between us.”

“If she is the one she will understand.”

“She is the one, Mother. I am sure of it. It is her—or no one.”

The silence between us grew taut like a bowstring with an arrow about to fly.

“I’m not disputing that fact. You will know when the time is right,” she reached out and placed a hand on top of mine, “and when the moment is right—kiss her and undo the potion,” Mother said, her eyes scanning over every inch of me.

I nodded and unfolded myself from the smaller arm chair. “I will,” I huffed.

“And darling,” Mother crooned. “She is quite perfect.”

Mother smiled a true, brilliant smile.
