Chapter 12

Gus

I was camping out between Seb’s thighs. There was no other word for it as I lapped lazily at his swollen rim, suckling a mixture of his slick and my cum from his gaping, well-fucked hole.

Something ignited in my brain every time I swallowed, like small explosions of pleasure.

My cock stirred, but not in a needy way, more just with bursts of delight.

Mine, my heart echoed. Seb was mine. I had bred him, and he belonged to me now.

Or at least, that was what my alpha brain told me.

Damn, when those advisors had shown up at Seb’s door. It felt like a storm brewing in my chest, threatening to blow the roof right off the palace. Let’s just say they were lucky I was inside Seb, because otherwise I would have thrown the door open and ripped every limb from their annoying bodies.

Seb whimpered in his sleep as I continued to worship his hole.

Not from pain and anguish, but with a newfound satedness that could only come from being bred.

A sudden sadness settled in my chest. The heat would be over soon, and we would find out if Seb was carrying my baby.

No, not mine, I reminded myself. The future king, but not a child who would be part of my life in any way.

A feeling of loss tore through me. My only comfort would be that Seb would love this child.

I knew he would. He was the sweetest, loveliest man I’d ever met, and I knew our child would feel loved every second of every day.

And at least there was some comfort to be found in that.

I just prayed the child was an omega. Then he would never have to experience the kind of pain I had at being separated from my family.

Resting my chin against Seb’s thigh, I closed my eyes. Every bone in my body ached. I was exhausted, and yet I willed myself to stay awake. I didn’t want to miss a single second I had left with my Seb.

A hand carded through my hair, twirling a lock around and around in tender movements.

“Morning,” Seb croaked, then shifted underneath me. “Is it morning? I can’t tell.”

“No, it’s still dark outside.”

“Oh, did you not sleep?”

I shook my head, and Seb rose to his elbows. I felt his eyes on me, so attuned to him by now.

“Come here, my alpha. You are too far away.” Lifting my head, I looked up at Seb, and I found his eyes spilling over with fondness and warmth.

I crawled up his body, pressing kisses against his skin, and he shivered with delight.

“There you are,” he smiled at me sleepily as I hovered above him.

“My royal breeder. My magnificent alpha.”

Okay, so Seb was definitely still in heat. I chuckled and shook my head. “I was stuck between your legs,” I admitted.

“Yeah?” He laughed.

“Uh-huh.”

“Why?” he giggled, then brushed my bangs out of my eyes.

“I thought I’d introduce myself properly,” I snorted.

“Gus! Ewww!” he squealed.

“What?” I laughed even harder. “I might be an alpha, but I’m still a gentleman.”

“Yes, you are. You definitely are. Very polite.” His chest once again bubbled over with laughter, and his green eyes swam with a mix of happiness and exhaustion.

“You are the kindest man I’ve met.” He seemed to sober, and my chest squeezed.

“So very kind.” There was a wet sheen to his eyes, and I felt his sadness as it echoed mine.

“Why is it…” I shook my head. There was no point to this train of thought. “Never mind.” Our faces were so close against each other that the tips of our noses touched, and I felt Seb’s sweet breath on my lips.

“What? Ask me.”

“Why is it that alphas and omegas can’t live together? You know, as mates? Because it feels like you and I could. I feel it deep inside that we could, Seb. Live together and be happy and content.”

His gaze darkened, and for the first time, I’d left my king speechless. So I continued. “I know that alphas are a danger to omegas, but I’ve never heard of an alpha actually harming an omega. Have you?” Seb gritted his teeth, and he froze underneath me. “What? What is it? Am I too heavy?”

“No. No, it’s not you, Gus.” He sighed deeply.

“It was my grandfather, the first omega king. I don’t know the details, but I know that an alpha, his husband, hurt him and that he…

I guess he never recovered from that. And his hurt…

It unleashed the magic somehow. The same magic I possess.

The magic that ensures that no omega will ever be harmed again. ”

I didn’t understand. I knew I wasn’t as educated as Seb, but it didn’t make any sense. “But if the magic keeps me from harming you, then why can’t we be together? Why not?”

“I don’t know! It’s just the way it is. I…

” Placing his hands against my chest, Seb carefully eased me off him.

Wincing, he sat up, then reached for his robe, which was draped across the back of a chair.

Wrapping it around his shoulders, he got out of bed.

A sudden chill moved through me, raising goosebumps all over my skin.

Slowly, on unsteady legs, Seb walked to the window. The full moon illuminated him as he gazed toward the night sky, and he stood there, his back turned to me, like a lonely dark silhouette.

“You have no idea how I wish it weren’t like this,” he whispered.

“Because I feel it too. Like we could live together, as mates, raising this child together.” His hands dropped to his front, and although I couldn’t see it, I knew he was cradling his still-flat stomach.

“But it’s not possible. Because I already love him, this child, although I don’t even know yet for a fact that the breeding was successful.

And still I love him, and I want to keep him safe.

” Turning around, his eyes found mine, two green pools of sadness.

Shrugging, he held out his hands in defeat.

“So you see, my dearest, loveliest Gus. I can’t risk it.

And I think you feel the same, don’t you? ”

I nodded, because I did feel the same. If there was even the slightest possibility that I could ever hurt Seb or our baby, then I’d rather stay away forever, living the rest of my life alone, just knowing they were safe.

“I do. I do feel the same, Seb. I just wish…” I sighed, then shook myself.

“At least we have these last few days together. Let’s make the most of them and not be sad. ”

“I agree, Alpha. Let’s make the most of them.”

“Do you want more honey, my alpha?” Seb poked at my shoulder with the heel of his foot.

I was stretched out between Seb’s thighs as I once again found myself in heaven.

We’d just fucked again, and Seb’s body was covered in a layer of fine perspiration, his skin flushed.

I’d bred him again, and this time, because I’d known what to expect, I’d been able to take in small, fragmented details of what had happened.

The sounds Seb had made, how he’d moved on top of me, because yes, this time Seb had ridden me in all his magnificent glory.

How stunning he was, his chest pushed out, his nipples pink and pointed as lovers’ milk had spilled from them.

It was like magic how his body could produce something like that.

Like a moth to a flame, I’d been drawn to them, to those two pink buds, and in a rare moment of awareness, Seb had seen it too, because he’d screamed at me, “Do it, Alpha. Drink my milk. Feast on it! It’s for you.

” With a growl, I’d latched on to his nipple, sucking the peak into my mouth, milking his body just like his womb had been milking my cock.

It was spectacular. His taste had exploded on my tongue, and my brain had screamed at me.

Mine, mine, mine! Then Seb had screamed too as he came on my cock, his womb clenching around me, coaxing cum from my cock with such force I think I blacked out.

“Gus? Earth to Gus.” He chuckled, and more cum oozed from his hole. “Do you want honey?”

“Nah, I’m good.”

“What?!” he gasped in mock-horror. “Declining honey? I’m in shock, Gus!”

“You’re cute.” I turned my face and dug my teeth into his thigh.

“Gus!” he squealed. He was such a slut for my love bites. “I’ll let that slide because you just gave me another mind-blowing breeding orgasm.”

“Why, thank you, Little Omega.” I winked, then licked the bite.

“Stop it!” He squirmed under my touch, then kicked me again.

“What was that?” I hummed. “Was that a butterfly batting its wings? You have to do better than that, Little Omega. I’m a big bad alpha, remember?”

He laughed at that. “You’re ridiculous. No, really. It’s a new sort. I had it ordered for you before my heat. It’s supposed to be especially nourishing.”

“I’d rather eat you.” I buried my face where his thigh met his hip, then nibbled at his skin again.

“You just did,” he snorted.

“And?” I lifted my head, raising a brow at him.

“Ugh!”

“What?”

“I can’t argue with you, Gus, when you put it like that and look at me that way. It’s your logic. It’s so…”

“Simple?” My chest squeezed. “You mean I’m dumb.”

“No! That’s not what I said, and that is definitely not what I think.” His eyes sparked with fierce indignation, and his voice shook.

“I know I’m simple-minded. Ignorant about many things. I know that.”

“Maybe. But that just makes you innocent in a way. Pure and uncorrupted. But not dumb. Never dumb.” I could tell from the tone of his voice and his entire demeanor that he meant it.

Seb didn’t see me that way. Perhaps he had in the beginning, but not anymore.

But it didn’t change the fact that others did.

“So not ‘daft as a brush’?” I mumbled, avoiding his gaze.

“Absolutely not! Did someone tell you that?”

“No…”

“Gus.”

“Not to my face, but…” I shrugged. It didn’t matter. I was just an alpha after all. My feelings weren’t important. But my omega saw right through me, of course.

“I know what’s going through that head of yours, but it’s not true, you know? It matters to me how people talk about you, because you matter to me. So tell me.” His voice had taken on its usual softness again whenever he spoke to me, and it made me feel safe.

“Your advisors,” I mumbled.

“They did what?!” Seb seethed as he sat up, his eyes blazing.

“Not to my face. Maybe I misheard.”

“Don’t you dare defend them! I’ve been fed up with them for a while now, but this is the final straw. They are old-fashioned and narrow-minded, and things will have to change around here.” He winced. “As soon as I can walk again.”

“Are you in great pain?” I reached for him as worry coursed through me.

“Don’t change the subject, Gus!” He clenched his fists in front of him, and I almost laughed at how cute he looked when he was angry. “I’ll have their heads!”

I jumped up. “No, please! Don’t!” Then I noticed his smirk. “Oh, you’re joking…”

He exhaled. “I could, though. I won’t allow anyone to hurt you, Gus. Even when the time comes when we are no longer together. I’ll always make sure that you are… safe.” He dipped his gaze toward his closed fists. “You’re the father of my child,” he whispered. “That means something.”

“Thank you.” I knew what he was trying to say.

That he appreciated our time together. That he, too, would remember it.

But I wanted his words to mean more. If only they could mean what I so desperately wanted them to mean.

That Seb would change the world for me. For us. But I knew that wasn’t possible.
