Chapter 4
R ennix
About a good hour after I got off the phone with Caya, I had her bitch ass baby father’s address and everything.
I even knew where he sold from, which had me in my truck ready to go see him.
Seeing her bothered pissed me off because she didn’t fuck with nobody.
She stayed in her space and kept it positive.
I fucked with that a hundred percent, so that’s why I was about to handle her bitch ass baby daddy without her asking.
“Where you headed?” Reminisce asked, catching me walking to my car.
“To handle some shit. I should be back in a few.”
He laughed. “Nah, you got that look in your eyes.” His hands were on my passenger door before I could even reach the driver side.
“What look?”
“The look I get when I’m working and I kill people for a living.” This fool then took a bite of the green apple in his hand.
I shook my head and keyed in the address for the corner store her bitch ass baby father worked out of.
“Who works out of a fucking corner store? What the fuck we doing?” Reminisce asked after I pulled off.
“You have a lot of questions. You sure you don’t want me to drop you back off at your bike?”
He laughed. “Ohhh, this is personal. I can tell. Who we going to see?”
“Caya’s bitch ass baby daddy,” I grumbled, not believing my own actions at this point.
I wasn’t even fucking, but I was on my way to put hands on her baby father for fucking with her.
I liked her energy pure and untouched, not bothered and tainted behind the fucking help.
She wasn’t my girl, but I gladly signed up to maintain her energy.
“She has a kid? You bouta go beat her baby father’s ass?” I knew the expression on his face before I looked at him.
I nodded.
“Well, aight.” His loud chewing ass ate the apple while I drove for all of thirty seconds before his mouth was open again.
“You sure she ain’t still fucking him?”
I cut my eyes between the corner I’d just bent and him. “Hell nah.”
He let the window down and chucked the apple pit out. “So, again, why we beating his ass?”
“Because he grabbed her up in the restaurant and is fucking with her. Keeps calling and shit.”
Silence.
“But don’t they got a kid?”
“Whose life he ain’t in.” I found myself sounding like a straight up sap behind Caya’s ass.
“Okay. One more question.”
I pulled up in front of the store, eyes trained on the door before I looked over at my brother. “What?”
“This got something to do with Mama?”
“Nope,” I answered and hopped out of the car before his inquisitive ass asked any more questions.
As soon as I entered the little market type corner store, my eyes landed on him leaned against the counter talking to a thick ass chick. From the stupid grin on her face he was macking too, but I was straight about to dead that shit.
“Yo, you Syke right?” I asked, watching Reminisce walk up the opposite aisle.
“Yeah, who’s asking?” He puffed out his chest.
I stepped in front of him, towering over him then looking at ol’ girl. “Ay, lil mama, you might wanna take a walk.”
She peeped the situation because she definitely looked from me to him before telling him she’d catch him later.
“Yo, do I know you, my man?” he asked, attempting to hide how badly he wanted to piss his pants. I could see the fear in his eyes, even though he was attempting to appear so hard.
“Nah, but you know a friend of mine, and from what I hear, you put your hands on her. Stalking her and shit.”
“Ain’t nobody touch Tandy, she lying.” He threw his hands up in surrender immediately.
“Good thing I don’t know who the fuck that is. I’m talking about Caya.”
His face immediately stoned. “What, that bitch sent you he?—”
I didn’t even allow him to finish his sentence. I knocked the Mario coins out his ass. He fell back into the rack of chips.
“Damn, I’m glad I found the fucking camera feed while you knocking motherfuckers into chip racks.” Reminisce walked up the aisle holding a wad of wiring and some chips. He was forever eating because he was always high and had the munchies.
I then leaned down and picked Syke up by his collar. “You wanna try that shit again, bitch?”
“The fuck you hit me for?”
“Because you was being disrespectful. I came in here to be civilized and tell you to fin?—”
“No you didn’t. You came to beat his ass.”
I cut my eyes at my brother. He was right. “He’s right; I did.” I hit his ass again with my free hand, hoping he stood up and took this shit like a man so I didn’t have to keep picking him up.
“This shit is sad. How you gonna beat his ass and he keeps tryna get down in the fetal position?” Reminisce asked, laughing hard as hell while eating a bag of corn chips.
“Shit, I don’t know.” This time I kicked him. “Look I’m really not tryna be in here like that. Leave Caya alone or I swear I’m coming back and next time I’ll be doing more than beating your ass.”
“That was the worst ass whooping I’ve ever seen in my life. The man ain’t have no fight in him,” Rem said as we exited the store.
I was inclined to agree, but I was too busy laughing.
That was the first time I called myself doing some shit like that and nine times out of ten it wouldn’t be the last. I was kicking this friend shit with Caya for now, but that didn’t take away from the fact that I was feeling her.
Not only that, but the more time I spent with her, the heavier that shit got.
Friends for what, two weeks, and I was already tender.
After I dropped my brother off at his bike, I checked in with the club and made my way to Caya’s spot. I knew she was already there because she texted me when she left her suite and when I was leaving the club.
It didn’t take me long to get to her spot because she was less that fifteen minutes away from the club, literally a left turn and seven blocks straight.
I was pulling into her driveway when I saw her talking to some fool without a shirt and a lawnmower in his hand. The fuck was she grinning with him for?
I exited the car quickly like a damn lame. I went into my trunk and grabbed my duffle before walking the path up to where she stood talking too damn much for my liking. The fuck was I doing?
When ol’ boy saw me walking up, he should’ve walked off, but like a typical cocky ass nigga he stood there talking to her even when I stood on the side of her.
“It’s a little late for company, thug.” I dropped my head and kissed the side of her face.
Her expression was priceless. “I was thanking Doug for cutting my gra?—”
“’Preciate it, Doug. How much I owe you?” My attention went from her to ol’ boy who I could tell wanted some. No man was mowing a lawn for free, especially in ninety-five degree weather.
“Nothing. I was just doing the neighborly thing.”
“Gotta be something other than that. ’Cause I’ma tell you right now, yeen none. You better take this couple dollars while I’m offering it.”
Caya was embarrassed and I didn’t give a fuck. Who the fuck she thought she was out here in those little ass shorts talking to this random ass fool?
Doug was obviously taken aback by my honesty and that was cool too. While she thanked him and tried to apologize for me, I continued into her crib, mentally giving her thirteen seconds to have her ass in here before I went back out there and got her. It wouldn’t be pretty if I had to.
“I cannot believe you just did that.” She entered the living room after closing and locking the front door behind her.
“Believe it, plus his square ass wasn’t your type anyways.”
She tilted her head to the side. “And what is my type?”
“Me, but you in denial, scared you might just fuck around and like it over here.” I winked in her direction.
“Oh? Like plenty of others do?” she countered.
I threw my head back in confusion. “What is that supposed to mean?”
“Exactly what I said. I had one of your employees in my chair today. She offered to get me a job, since she’s sleeping with the owner.
” Her expression let me know in the door that she didn’t like that, but why did I care?
We were friends at her instance, yet I definitely just put hands on her baby daddy and cockblocked the fuck out of Doug’s Handy Manny ass.
“Who?”
“Damn, it’s that many that you have to ask me for a name?” She crossed her arms across her chest and mugged the fuck out of me.
“Nah, I’m wondering if we talking about the same broad. ’Cause I already told you I’m not fu?—”
“Juicy.”
I laughed. “I ain’t fucking lil Silicon Valley, but she sucking dick though. The fuck else I’m supposed to do waking up next to you and no?—”
“Nope, not my business. Don’t catch shit and bring your ass back to my house kissing on me.”
I chortled. “I’m only kissing on you. As a matter of fact, where my greeting at anyway?
Had your ass out there smiling all in his face and shit.
” Nope, this friend shit wasn’t finna work for me because I was grown enough to know I wanted more, but I had to do it right.
We talked enough for me to know I couldn’t half ass anything where she was concerned.
Any move I made needed to be right or not at all.
