Chapter 6 #2

“Your people are at the far end.” Bull, the head of my brother’s security, pointed. Some people could tell us apart and others couldn’t. What always set Rem apart were the tattoos on the side of his face while me nor G had any.

“Good looking.”

I was moving in the direction of my brother when I looked up and saw her. She was fucking gorgeous in olive cargo pants and a corset that had her whole back out. She was fucking ravishing, had me thinking fuck this meet the family shit. I wanted to go home and put my face between her legs.

Before I could reach her, I spotted my little brother and Kinga talking.

“’Bout time you got your ass here,” Dimitri greeted while Kinga laughed, shaking his head like he knew something I didn’t.

“I knew yo’ ass was sliding through.” We shook hands, my eyes jumping around but continuously landing on Caya in the crowded space.

“You knew when I called.” My eyes went from him back to Caya. She was too busy talking to Harlem.

“I heard you been stalking,” Dimitri joked and I shook my head.

Kinga laughed, eyes moving around the space before they landed on me. “Tighten up, bro, you looking like you in love in here.”

“I’m saying,” Dimitri cosigned.

I waved him off. “Y’all would know, huh?”

“Damn right, ’cause I know what it looks like.” Kinga was the one to respond while Dimitri just laughed.

As if she felt me looking at her, Caya looked away from Harlem. Her eyes scanned the room before they landed on me and she poked Harlem, pointing to me. She then pushed away from the banister, moving toward me.

From the back and side, I could see her back was out, but the front of her shirt had me ready to unbutton my own and hand it to her. The fuck was she thinking out here showing off like this?

When she made it to me, she stood in front of me, just looking, with that bottom lip poked out. I’d address that later. I was ready to get these introductions out of the way, so when it was time to cut out I could do just that.

I threw my arm around her shoulder, pulling her into me before we turned to my brother. “G, this is Caya. Cay, this is my little brother.”

He nodded in her direction but screwed his face up in mine. “What I tell you ’bout that lil brother shit?”

I laughed and dragged her in the direction of the rest of the pack.

I wasn’t shocked that everything went easy, and when I said easy, I meant it just fit.

They met her and didn’t make a scene. They let shit rock and she fit right in.

Hell, everybody fit. For a good portion of the night, the ladies stayed in one section while we talked shop and chilled. Everything was cool.

At some point in the night Caya ended up in my lap while Lotus performed. The feel of her buttery skin against my fingertips had a different type of effect on me.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?” she asked, her lips near my ear.

“You didn’t ask. Shit, I didn’t intend to even come in here, but after you didn’t tell me what club and I did all that work to find out, they all wanted to meet you.”

She smiled. “Your family seems cool. Even though you, Reminisce, and G look like triplets. That shit is way creepy.”

I laughed. “I’on look like them. I got my own face.”

She kissed the side of my face. “If you say so. Are you coming over tonight?”

“Did you have to ask? We gotta talk about this lil fit you walked your ass out the door in.” I tugged at the barely holding anything straps.

She giggled. “You don’t like it?”

“You know I like it, too much, but you out here tryna get somebody handled.” I kissed her exposed shoulder.

“Nobody needs to be handled because where am I right now?” She didn’t give me much of a chance to respond before she was talking again. “In your arms, your embrace, and tryna share your skin with you if I can.”

I nodded. “Makes sense, just remember you said that later on, since we talking about sharing skin.”

Laughter escaped her lips.

“Y’all over here caked up, all smiles. I ain’t never seen you smile this much.

What have you done with my brother, Caya?

” Rem asked, taking a seat across from us with some random chick in his arms. All I could see under the dim lighting was that she had bright orange ass hair.

He loved those ones who were straight up outliers.

There was nothing wrong with it, but how in the hell did the most unartistic nigga keep finding the most artistic girls.

It made no sense, but then again opposites attract.

“I have no clue what you’re talking about, Reminisce.” Caya laughed.

“I bet you don’t. You doing magic on my brother, ain’t you?” Rem laughed at his own joke.

She laughed, waving him off.

The rest of the night went by like a blur, all of us kicking it with good vibes and no bullshit. Everybody had a time and even the birthday boy had to be walked out by his brother. That was funny because he fell on his ass twice before Kinga just grabbed him and walked him to the car.

“I enjoyed myself with you.”

Her voice made me look over at her. She was holding my hand as it rested on her thigh. “I’m glad. You know that’s the first time I’ve ever done anything like that,” I said honestly.

“Anything like what?” she asked.

“Introduced anybody to my people. Given we’ve only known one another for a few years now, I still tend to keep that type of shit separate. But you, things have been different from the start.”

“Meaning? And technically, Reminisce showed up at my doorstep.”

“Yeah, because I stayed at your crib. My siblings have my location as I also have theirs. Rem more than anybody knows I don’t do that spend a night shit.

I don’t sleep next to women, even after I fucked.

I just don’t… Well, I didn’t. Then you made me be your friend and we did that pill—” I started but my phone ringing through the console interrupted my statement. The Caller ID told me it was the club.

When I answered, I could hear chaos. Then her voice came into the speaker. “Boss, we have a problem. Somebody was shot inside of the club. It seems as though it was possibly a robbery gone wrong. I was in the back doing payroll when they came and got me. The cops are here and th?—”

“I’m on my way. Pull up the cameras and have the footage ready when I get there.”

“Okay.”

I glanced over at Caya, about to tell her I’d take her home, but she spoke before I could.

“No, I am going with you.”

I shook my head. “I ain’t looking for no ride or die, Caya. Just be my peace, baby.”

She squeezed my index finger before she forced a chuckle. “Good thing I’m not offering to be one. I said I’m going with you, is that a problem?”

I gritted my teeth. “You hear what the fuck I’m dealing with and you wanna ask if it’s a problem for you to come with me.”

“Loud and clear, and I told you I was going with you. Now what the fu—” she started, but I turned the radio up. I wasn’t used to things like this because I knew I wasn’t going to drop her ass off now. She was going with me.

Caya

When we got to the club there were police cars everywhere.

There was also yellow tape and a good amount of people standing by the door.

I immediately felt bad for forcing him to bring me here, but then again it would have taken him longer to take me home and come back.

It was more feasible for me to just come with.

He turned the car off, but before we exited, his hand tightened around my thigh, holding me in place.

Then his free hand found my chin and he pulled me toward him.

“You ain’t never had a reason to question shit when it came to me, even when we wasn’t fucking.

So don’t start now, and that challenging shit, wrap it the fuck up within two to three business days, ’cause that ain’t even for us.

I tell you something; it’s for your own good. You hear me?”

I nodded, my chin in his hand like it belonged there. Then he leaned forward and pecked my lips. When we finally exited the car, he grabbed my hand and led me toward the entrance. Now more than ever I was glad I wore designer sneakers instead of the heels meant for this outfit.

When we entered the club, he let my hand go and moved toward the police who were standing in front of a woman. She looked to be in distress, but when she saw Rennix she straightened up, or at least tried to.

I watched from a few feet away as he took control of the entire situation, speaking with the cops and employees, then shutting the place down.

This man exuded power and arrogance. I didn’t know much about his business but I knew from the way he handled them and from the space we had been in tonight, he had no intention of cooperating with the cops.

His brother was God. I had no street ties, but I did plenty of women’s hair who lusted over that man and knew quite a bit about him.

So I was aware of him and who he was. What’s funny was I was never able to put a name to a face until tonight when, to my surprise, his face nearly mirrored Rennix’s.

Honestly, the same could have been said for Kinga before he was my best friend’s man.

The girls loved to talk about the men heavily known in the streets while I did their hair.

“Baby.” Rennix’s voice broke my thoughts.

I blinked a few times and looked at his hand he extended for me to take. I took it and he led me toward a hall. We entered his office a few seconds later, then he pointed to the sofa near the window.

I hugged myself because it was chilly in here. “Go ahead and make yourself comfortable since you wanted to be in here so bad.”

I nodded with a grin, watching him watch me. Then he unbuttoned the denim button up he was wearing and handed it to me.

“Put this on.”
