Chapter 6 #3

I did as he asked and went to the couch, pulling my phone from my purse.

At first I intended to busy myself but seeing him glare at the monitor in front of him had me on my feet in seconds.

My hands found his shoulders, gripping and massaging them firmly.

He partially leaned into my touch, but he was still so tense.

“Somebody opened the back door for them to get in,” he said after watching four masked men enter the back door from an angle. He then pointed to a camera marked number eighteen on the screen and spoke. “Same motherfucker who damaged this fucking camera. Been down since the day before. Fuck!”

“What does that mean?”

“Means whatever happened tonight was planned. It was an inside job.”

“Oh, I’m sor—” I started, as he caught one of my hands and pulled it to his lips.

He started to speak, but his door was busted open. In the doorway stood Juicy, the dancer whose hair I had done that one time.

“What the fuck is this? Bitch, are you ser?—”

“Girl, watch your fucking mouth before I come across this desk and beat your ass.” A threat I had no problem making good of slid from my lips fast.

His grip tightened. “What the fuck you barging into my office for?”

“I came in here to talk to you, but I see you fucking with the help. That’s why you been acting funny with me?”

I saw myself slap her a million ways to Sunday, but he didn’t loosen his grip and I didn’t move.

I was in therapy once a month and doing good.

I was trying my hardest to keep my temper and actions under wraps.

Had this been about a year ago, I would’ve walked this hoe, like when I said walked, I meant hair wrapped around my hand walking her to the door.

“Rennix,” I said in a warning tone. Part of my therapy was knowing my triggers and being aware of the things that set me off.

He lifted his head and looked at me and I threw my head in her direction.

He shook his head. “Nah, baby, she ’bouta be outta work. I can’t have her suing because I let my lady beat her ass. Though I would like to see if your little ass can fight for real.” Laughter flowed from his lips.

I didn’t mean to chuckle, but I did.

“Out of work? What did I do? I ju—” She spoke in this fake ass valley girl accent. Not only had that shit irked me at the shop the other day, but it irked me even more now.

“You keep barging your stupid ass in here like you don’t get it. It was cool, you sucked my dick a few times. For real, I appreciate that, but I meant what I said. Now gon’ ahead on before I really fire your ass in here.”

She gave us one last hateful stare before she stormed off, but in my experiences with chicks like her, they didn’t let things like this go because they believed in scrapping for a man.

Me on the other hand, I scrapped for my respect.

So hopefully ol’ girl was on her Ps and Qs when she saw me again.

Because if she tried me, I was clocking her shit.

He kissed my open hand without a care in the world before pulling me around to his lap. “She’s gone and that shit is over. Come back into the room.”

I hadn’t even realized my mind left until he said something. I blinked a few times, fully reentering the room with him.

“Lil angry ass,” he muttered, pushing his face into my neck.

“Don’t call me angry and give me a reason to be such.”

He laughed. “I got you. Shit, if I ever call you crazy, best believe I’ma be the one driving you there at the end of the day. Then, in the event I’m not driving, I’m riding shotgun and nothing about that is changing.”

I didn’t understand his metaphor but I nodded. I felt like he was assuring me so I didn’t put up any fuss. Instead, I got back to the task at hand.

“So what are you going to do with this footage?”

“Have the security company forward over the rest of the footage for the last few days. Then I’ll watch to see who deliberately fucked up this camera.” He pointed.

“So you think whoever destroyed the camera is the person who tried to rob the club?”

He nodded. “Yup, because Boe said when she came out of the kitchen there were masked men. They all ran out the back door, the same door of the broken camera. Why would four masked fools roll up in here on a random night? It wasn’t random at all, but I’m going to get to the bottom of it.

” His hands encased my hips and he began to massage them the moment his sentence trailed off.

“Aren’t you mad?” I questioned, feeling the hard mass beneath while he controlled the motion of my hips in his lap.

“Very, but I learned at a young age that walking around huffing and puffing ain’t gonna do shit for me. Everything happens in its own time. The motherfucker who did this will be dealt with in due time.”

I nodded, understanding his logic and extremely cool demeanor. “Then in that case, are we headed out before you get something started you can’t finish in here?”

“Why can’t I finish it in here?” I heard the smile in his tone.

“Because I know you’ve had plenty of finishes in here, so you won’t be finishing a damn thing with me in here.”

He chuckled loudly. “Damn that’s cold.”

“Real cold, now I’m about to go back over here and sit down while you wrap up your business, sir.”

He laughed and held on to my waist tighter. “Remember you said that when I get you home.” Then he leaned forward and kissed me again before releasing me.

I found my way over to the white couch and took a seat. We were there for another two hours before he cut his computer off and told me to come on. When we finally made it to my house, my baby was asleep with my sister in the suite style guest area she claimed as her own when I first moved here.

After checking on them, I made my way to my bedroom. As I expected, Rennix was in the shower and I immediately decided to join him. Within seconds all my clothes were pooled on the floor and I followed the steam, sure to close the bathroom door behind me.

When I opened the shower door, he was standing under the water, allowing it to cascade down his beautiful, chocolate skin. This man was everything and he knew it. He stood like a fucking god, no blemishes or mistakes in sight. He was perfect.

“You ’bouta keep letting cold air in here or come warm this motherfucker up with me?” He didn’t even turn around and look at me.

I licked my lips, stepping into the shower knowing damn well I’d have to do something to my hair in the morning if I did.

That didn’t stop me and it damn sure didn’t stop him.

Once I was within his reach, he pulled my body in, cornering me between him and the tile.

Water was everywhere, but that wasn’t even the wettest thing in this shower room.

He dropped my hand and his hand found my neck. Then he licked my lips before making it nasty. I just knew this was bound to be a long shower.

“Where do you see yourself in the next five years?” His voice cut through the silence while his hand moved up and down my abdomen.

I blinked a few times, staring up at the ceiling while he lay on his side gazing over at me. I felt his eyes…shit, I always did. “It’s hard to say because life has this way of changing course without your knowledge. You won’t know what course you’re on until you find a steady speed and no brakes.”

“Then fuck five years. What about five months?”

“Hopefully with you, unless you fuck up and I have to knock you upside your shit.”

He laughed. “Aight thug, don’t threaten me with a good time. But keep it a buck with me, five months.”

“I just wanna be happy, fulfilled, and not wondering what’s next. I wanna be so bursting and content in the moment that next isn’t even on my mind.”

He nodded, hand still moving in a repetitive motion. “I feel that.”

Then, before I could respond or ask him about his next five months, he was talking again.

“What can I do to add to that?”

My heart threatened to explode at that moment. My everything was about to explode. “To add to what?”

“To add to your fulfillment and happiness,” he stated flat out, like a real one. Like a grown ass man.

“Just keep being my friend… And my man, in one. Keep calling me thug instead of crazy when I’m being downright crazy. Keep being you.” I couldn’t hide or halt the smile on my face even if I wanted to.

“Bet.” His hand found my breast and cuffed it. Shit.

“For somebody who has never been in a relationship or wanted one, you do this communicating thing well.”

“Never met anybody I wanted to communicate with until you.” He leaned over and pressed his lips against the side of my face. A peck later he was back up straight and had yet to move his hand.

“What about you? How can I add to your life?” I wasn’t gonna ask about the five months because he always told me he didn’t plan that far ahead. Funny, the person who didn’t plan far ahead inquiring about plans.

“You already do. Your energy is a drug to me. I’on be needing shit else when I’m around you because you give me substance.

You probably feel like this shit happened fast, and it probably did, but when you feel that feeling, you feel it.

I felt everything about you that night when Donuts first opened.

Why you think I kept you by me like I’d known you for years?

I told you I just needed one night, but I ain’t mean it.

One night wouldn’t have done anything but form a deeper hunger than the one I already had for you. ”

“Why didn’t you say that the night you were at my house then?”

“’Cause we both know you wouldn’t have believed me. You would’ve thought I was just tryna get between your legs.”

“And what’s the difference now?”

“I ain’t gotta say anything to get between your legs. That’s my second home.”

I giggled as he dragged his hand back down my flesh.

“Say I don’t.”

“I’m not gonna contest that statement, because you do, and I’m okay with it. But all you’ve done is hype my head instead of telling me what I can add to your life.”

“Just stay you.”

When I opened my eyes the next morning, Rennix wasn’t in bed with me and I smelled food cooking.

It wasn’t that I had a hound nose or anything, but the ventilation system was just that connected in this house.

I glanced over at the time, seeing it was eight in the morning, way after my normal wakeup time, especially when Adonis was home.

Oh shit! Adonis.

As soon as Adonis crossed my mind, I was on my feet, rushing to his room.

When I saw he wasn’t in there, I rushed down to the kitchen where I spotted my son sitting on the island, seemingly making a mess and watching Bluey, while a shirtless Rennix stood right next to him stirring a bowl of what I assumed to be pancake batter.

“Damn, you good, thug?” Rennix asked as soon as he spotted me.

“Yeah. I just didn?—”

“Your sister knocked on the door earlier and said she was heading out. Lil G was up about thirty minutes later. Figured we could hook you up some breakfast, but yeen have shit in your refrigerator. So I ordered everything.” He moved around, continuing to cook while I just looked at him.

“You can cook?”

“Hell nah, but I be all over Kimmy page looking at the shit I wanna eat. I got you, now I’ma start sending those recipes your way.”

I laughed. “I told you I don’t like to cook.”

“But you like me. I feel like if I dig deep enough you’ll get into the spirit.” He winked in my direction.

More laughter escaped my lips before I approached my baby. He didn’t know what the hell he was doing. Shit… yes he did, he was making a mess.

“I’m cooking, Mommy.” He smiled up at me.

I returned the smile. “I see.” Then I looked over the spread. It was nice, especially for a man who claimed he couldn’t cook. There were waffles, eggs, biscuits, sausage, pork bacon, turkey bacon, a lighter sausage, and even grits.

“Are you sure you can’t cook?” I asked, eyes locked on his back.

He laughed. “Told you I couldn’t, but I really be paying attention to the videos, baby. Here, try this.” He held up a piece of sausage for me.

“What is this?”

“Chicken sausage. I know better than to feed you a pork sausage even though we both know you be sneaking pork.”

I accepted the sausage between my lips and chewed. It actually tasted good. “Okay, don’t set me up on a vibe you don’t intend to maintain.”

He laughed. “I figured you cook for me and I cook for you. That way Lil G won’t starve and we’ll both get the hang of this shit.”

I couldn’t help but laugh at his logic.

“What you say about that, Lil G?” Rennix’s attention went to Adonis who nodded happily, excited. My baby wasn’t thinking about no damn eating; he was just returning energy. Rennix seemed happy, so he was happy.

“See, even he agrees.”

I waved him off. “You got food and you’re smiling at him. Of course he’s agreeing.”

Rennix shook his head, taking the spoon from Adonis and handing him a piece of sausage in its place.

For a minute I just watched him move around the kitchen with a smile on my face. Never mind the fact that he expected me to do the same thing soon. For moments like this I’d do it. I was probably jumping the gun, but this moment felt like the beginning of a family unit.
