Chapter 28- Panicked
" I'm not in the country right now but I'll find a way, I'll get on the next flight, anything, please take care of her for me, I'm coming, please," I said as tears uncontrollably ran from my eyes. I was panicking.
" I will, please stop crying she's going to be fine," The voice over the phone said and I nodded, unable to speak, not like he could see me.
" Okay," I whispered before ending the call, then I tried to wipe my tears because they wouldn't stop falling.
I quickly rushed back to where Cole and his business partner were seated. Cole's face instantly filled with worry and he quickly rose from his chair as soon as I reached him.
" You were crying Anna, what happened?" He asked.
" I'll have to leave you guys, I have to be on the next flight to Texas, my best friend got into an accident, you can go on with your meeting, I'll have to go back, I have to make sure she's okay, I have…" Cole stopped me as his hand held mine to calm my shaking hands.
" Hey, hey, she's going to be okay, let's go," He said and I nodded as he said something to the lady. I didn't care to listen but I'm sure he was telling her we had to go. I was fighting so hard not to start sobbing here.
" Let's go," Cole said as he placed his hand on my shoulder and we both rushed out of the restaurant. When we got to the car he opened the door for me and I got in. I didn't see the need to hold my sobs anymore because no one was watching me so I burst into tears.
Cole opened the driver's door and got in surprised to see I was already crying.
" Anna," He whispered as I turned away from him, balling my eyes out.
" She's going to be fine, you're not going to lose your friend okay? You have to be strong for her, come here," He said as he opened his arms for me, I wrapped my arms around him the way my position on the passenger seat would allow but he pulled me to his lap holding me tightly.
" Stop crying baby, I hate to see you cry, it would be alright," He said, combing his hand through my hair.
I returned back to the passenger seat as Cole started the car and drove us out of the restaurant.
We wanted to leave Switzerland immediately but the pilot said it wasn't safe to fly so we had no choice but to wait till morning.
I've never been so worried in my life, all night I couldn't sleep the same as Cole, he couldn't sleep because I couldn't sleep, he was trying to calm me down, and he'd start saying soothing words when I wanted to start my crying episode.
Each time I managed to close my eyes, I'd be reminded that Bella was in the hospital and I wasn't there with her.
" You have to sleep Anna, if you don't sleep you're going to be sick and that's the last thing I want, so please try and get some sleep," Cole said as he drew the bed cover up my body and my hands held him tightly trying to sleep as he said.
As much as I tried, I could only get a little sleep, you couldn't blame me, my best friend since I was a baby was in the hospital and I wasn't with her.
When it was morning I got up first as I slowly came out of Cole's arm, I didn't want to wake him, he couldn't sleep well last night because of me and I felt bad about it.
" Good morning Mr. Johnson, can we fly back to Texas now?" I asked him as I opened the bathroom door to get in.
" Yes Miss Fredrick, the coast is clear," He said as I thanked him before ending the call.
I quickly took a shower and returned to the room to get dressed. Cole was still sleeping and I contemplated waking him up but I decided against it. He didn't get any sleep because of me, I didn't want to stress him with my troubles. So I decided to book a flight instead of waiting to go with the private jet.
I took my phone as I checked for available flights, I was scrolling through when I heard Cole's voice.
" What are you doing?" He asked as he got up from the bed making his way to me.
" I'm trying to book a flight to Texas," I told him.
" Shit! Why didn't you wake me," He said as he started removing his clothes.
" You looked very tired, I couldn't bring myself to wake you," I said to him.
" You're my girlfriend and I have a responsibility to take care of you, so anything that concerns you concerns me," He said as he dropped a perk on my lips.
" I'll be quick," He said before rushing to the bathroom.
Cole and I were currently seated on the plane going back to Texas, I was so anxious I wouldn't stop tapping my leg.
" You're making me anxious by tapping your leg like that, you have to calm down," Cole said as he took my hand squeezing it. I was sitting beside him unlike when we were coming and I was seated in front of him.
I needed comfort.
" Hey beautiful, wake up," I heard Cole whisper as he lightly shook my shoulder. I opened my eyes, stretching as I stared up at him. I didn't realize I had fallen asleep.
" We're here," As soon as he said those words I quickly got up from my seat looking around like I was lost.
" Hey, easy, easy," Cole said, holding my shoulders.
" This is why I didn't want to wake you, all I wanted to do was carry you out so you could sleep some more but we're back in Texas where a lot of eyes are waiting for the opportunity to spoil my name, let's go," He said as he took my hand but as soon as we reached the exit he let go of my hand. We both knew why.
We drove straight to the hospital and my heart wouldn't stop pounding.
When I reached the hospital I asked the receptionist for Bella's room number and a few of the doctors and nurses that knew me greeted me as I passed them. She works here, but now she's a patient here.
I reached Bella's room but couldn't bring myself to open the door, afraid of what I'd see there. I didn't know what the level of the accident was and I was scared to find out.
What if it was something that would make my best friend paralyzed or worse they'd have to cut her legs? I shook my head clearing all the negative thoughts I had.
Then I took a deep breath and finally opened the door.
