Chapter 46- Get a Wife
I knew she was hiding something, we were supposed to tell each other everything so why was she hiding something from me? I somehow felt like she only told me she wanted me to come to dinner with her, because she wanted me not to ask too many questions concerning why she was crying.
It was bothering me and as much as I wanted to question her till she told me the truth, I couldn't. A relationship was all about understanding, and knowing when to give your partner space, she was going to tell me when she felt like it was time to tell me but for now I'd have to play along.
I heard a knock on the door and I knew it was her, I sat up straight with a smile on my face.
" Hi gorgeous," I said as she walked in with a paper bag.
" Sir, your lunch," She said as she dropped the bag on my table and I just watched her.
" Sir?" I asked with a raised brow.
" Are you so desperate to call me Sir? I'd have to give you a very interesting reason to call me Sir," I said and she blushed. She knew what I was talking about.
" Are you not going to eat with me?" I asked and she shook her head and she was already slowly walking backwards out of my office.
" Nope, I've got mine in my office,"
" When are you going to eat lunch with me?" I asked and she shrugged, that wasn't the answer I wanted, I wanted her to eat lunch with me, I wanted those cute couple moments where she'd steal my fries but she was saying no.
Fine, I'd have to eat alone.
She opened the office door and walked out, so she really meant it? She was leaving her boyfriend all alone?
After my lunch I got back to work, I noticed the demand for one of our electronics had increased so I quickly asked my beautiful secretary to send a mail to the advertising department to focus more on that product, if one is good it would draw people to the others.
I got engrossed in my work until it was time to leave, I still had an unavoidable dinner with my parents.
I walked out of my office and took a peek at Anna to see if she was still busy, instead of walking to her I decided to call her and I noticed that as soon as her phone rang she jerked as her face instantly filled with fear, something was definitely up.
I watched as she picked up the phone seeing I was the one calling her face filled with a smile, that alone made me happy.
" Hey," She simply said,
" No hey my love, hey my handsome boyfriend?" I asked and she chuckled before her eyes met mine through her glass door.
" You're going home?" She asked without taking her eyes off me.
" Yeah, got that dinner with my parents,"
" Oh, I'm wishing you luck then," She said
" Make sure you call me as soon as you get home, I might be a little busy to pick up your call when dining with them but just leave a message for me before you leave the office and make sure to call me okay,"
" Okay,"
" Alright love, see you tomorrow," I said, ending the call and winking at her before I walked to the elevator.
I got into my car and drove to my parents' house, I had to prepare myself because I knew my dad wouldn't just invite me over for nothing, he had a surprise for me. One I definitely won't like.
I parked my car outside and my Mom was already waiting for me.
" Mom, how long have you been waiting here?" I asked her as soon as I got out.
" Not too long, I was worried you weren't coming,"
" Come on you know me, I'll do anything for you, if I tell you I'm coming, it means I'm going to come, you didn't have to wait for me,"
" Let's forget about that son, you're here now that's all that matters, let's go inside," She said as she held my hand and we walked inside together.
" Where's dad?" I asked,
" He's upstairs," I'm guessing he didn't think I was going to show up.
We walked together to the dining room and everything was already set.
" I'll just get your father," She said before rushing upstairs, I could tell she was very happy which warmed my heart.
A few minutes later I heard footsteps and I turned to see both of them.
" You had to keep your parents waiting," That was his greeting, no hello son how are you?
" Jerry don't start," My mom warned and he just looked at me before walking to sit at the head table. I pulled a chair for my Mom and she sat down thanking me before I went to take my seat. We hadn't even started eating yet the atmosphere was already tense.
We said our prayers blessings the food before we started eating.
" So how's work son?" My Mom asked, I knew she didn't like the tense atmosphere and was trying to loosen it a bit.
" Good, what can I say, I'm trying my best," The best that would never be enough for your husband.
" That's good, work isn't too stressful right?"
" Honey, why would it be stressful, what is he doing there?" My jaw clenched at his question, he was doing it again. I wasn't here because of him, I was here for my mom and no matter what he says or does I'll endure it, all for her sake.
" Jerry, I don't like this, can we just have dinner and talk like a family, not like people who want to slice each other's throat, please stop," My Mom complained.
Everyone turned back on their food, I was eating when my phone beeped with a message.
' I'm getting into the car my love, I'll call you when I get home, I'm hoping you'll be done by then. But if you're not done no need to pick up my call, just text me, kisses,'
I couldn't help but smile as I typed back a response totally forgetting about my parents.
' Okay love, drive safely, I love you,'
I dropped the phone to see my Mom smiling at me while my dad like always had a hard look on his face.
" When are you getting married?" He suddenly asked,
" At the right time Dad,"
" There is no right time, Cole, I'll be introducing you to a friend's daughter, she would be your wife,"
" You've got to be kidding me,"
