Chapter 58- Not Today
It was time to dance and yet I still hadn't seen any sign of her, I was beginning to get worried.
" Won't you ask me for a dance Cole?" Mirabel asked, I didn't want to, I wanted to dance with only Anna, not some loudmouth.
" I don't think I want to dance Mirabel," I said to her as I sipped on the champagne.
" Come on Cole, everyone is dancing, we can't just keep watching them," She said with a pout like she thought I was going to find that attractive.
" You know there are a lot of men here that would gladly want to dance with you, leave me alone," I said as I brought my phone and I dialed Anna's number, it was ringing but she wasn't picking up.
Where the hell was this woman? Why does she like to make me worry?
I was about to walk off and go look for Anna when I was blocked by my father.
Just great.
I looked at my mom and she looked like she would rather be anywhere than standing right here then I turned to my Dad and the man standing beside him.
My dad had that look in his eyes like he was warning me to be on my best behavior.
What was this all about?
" Meet my son, Cole," My father said as he smiled at me. He was smiling at me which meant trouble.
" Cole, Mr. Thomas Oscar," My father introduced, like I give a fuck about the man's name.
" He looked like the right man for my daughter," The man said and I felt my heart skip.
His name sounded familiar like I'd heard it before, I think I knew him by name but I'd never seen him, of course, I knew him by name, he was one of our partners.
I couldn't speak, I just watched them. What would happen if I walked out of here right now?
" Where's that girl?" The man asked as he looked around like he was finding someone.
" There she is....Mirabel come over here," If my heart stopped before I felt like it fell to my stomach now.
I hope it wasn't the Mirabel I knew.
But as she came to stand beside her father, I knew I was doomed, they wanted me to marry her, no fucking way, I was never going to marry her or any woman at that.
" Hi Dad, what's wrong?" She asked as she held her father's arms smiling, my dad was smiling thinking he had won.
" I'd like you to meet Cole, I'm guessing you already know each other," Mr. Oscar said.
" Yeah, I know him," She said,
" Well, my friend and I were discussing, would you like it if you both got married?" You've got to be kidding me.
" You're joking right?" She asked in shock as she removed her arm from her dad's and looked at him like he would laugh and tell her he was joking.
" Of course not honey,"
" This is the best news ever, you want me to marry Cole, I'm so excited!" She said as she moved to come hug me but I took a step back.
My Mom tried to warn me with her eyes to calm down but I couldn't, I couldn't be calm when someone was trying to threaten my relationship with Anna.
As respectful as I could make my voice I spoke.
" I don't know where you all sat down to discuss this, but I'm not going to be a part of it, excuse me," I said, and before any of them could speak I walked away.
" Cole!" I heard my Mom call, not today Mom, not today.
" How dare he disrespect me," I heard my dad's voice
"I'll talk to him," That was the last thing I cared to hear.
I wanted to be out of here, where was Anna? I had to leave this place because I swear if my dad came to me and brought up that marriage talk, I don't know what I would be saying to him.
I kept dialing Anna's number and it kept ringing but she wouldn't pick up.
" Is there a way we can locate the owner, I found it in the restroom, must have fallen off without the person's notice," I heard a lady say but my mind wasn't on what she was saying. Not until I dialed Anna's number and heard her phone ringing did I turn and see that a lady was holding her phone.
My heart skipped a beat.
I quickly walked to the lady.
" Where did you find this phone?" I asked her.
" Is it yours? I found it in the female restroom," She said.
I immediately dialed Anna's number and the phone started ringing on the lady's hand.
" It's not mine but it belongs to my secretary, I've been looking for her," I said.
" Okay, then you should give it to her, I think it fell off her," The lady said before handing the phone to me.
" Thank you," I said as I collected the phone. Would her phone fall off without her knowing? I doubt that.
Anna was very careful with her things, but where was she right now?
I opened her phone to see who she called last and it was her best friend Bella.
I dialed the number and waited patiently for her to pick up.
" Anna, oh my God, thank God you're okay, I was worried…" I heard her friend say and I just remained silent, unable to speak.
Why would Bella sound like that, she sounded so relieved thinking that Anna was the one calling.
…" Anna, Anna are you there? Why aren't you saying anything?" She asked and I came out of my shock.
" Bella, it's Cole, I found Anna's phone on the floor, is there something going on I should know about?" I asked her as I felt my heart hammering in my chest.
" Wait, she's not with you?" Bella asked and I could hear the panic in her voice.
" She's not," I said
" Oh my God, no, he didn't get there already, no,"
" What are you talking about?"
" Derick, Derick came by the house today asking for Anna,"
" What?!"
