Chapter 66- A Mother's Threat
“ Is there something you need ma?" I asked as I swallowed. I felt like a young boy who had been caught from jumping the fence when I didn't even know what my offense was.
“ Cut that crab, you both think I don't know?” She asked as she turned to look at her daughter then turned to me. I swallowed again, God this woman suddenly looked scary.
“ What are you talking about Mom? I already told you I'm sorry about hiding what has been happening, you don't need to…”
" I'm forty eight and you both don't think I haven't lived enough to be able to add one or two together to figure out something?" She asked.
“ I think I'll wait…"
“ You're going nowhere, you all are in this together," she angrily turned to Bella who was about to wheel herself out of the room and she pouted, feeling like a deer caught in the headlights.
“ Fine," Bella muttered.
" You both didn't think I wouldn't know you're already dating? ” She asked as she turned to me. I shouldn't be the person she should be looking at, I was ready to come clean but her daughter wouldn't accept because she was fucking scared.
" Mom, you know? But—” Anna said with her mouth open as she looked at her Mom.
" You seem to talk about your boss too much, and if I had doubts before, the moment I walked into this room and was welcomed by sexual tension I knew I was right all along,”
Was there like a particular scent for that because how the fuck did she catch on to that?
“ What else are you hiding from me Anna? What else? Because I am your mother and I'm supposed to know everything going on in your life, well as much as you want me to know but I have every right to know about your safety and well being, don't you think it's going to affect me if anything were to happen to you?” She asked as Anna looked down in sadness.
I didn't want her to be sad, it's not our fault that we found ourselves in a situation where we cannot freely love each other.
“ I'm sorry Mom,” Anna said with a sigh.
" Anna, you know he's your boss, what would people say?” She suddenly asked.
“ But I love him and I don't care what people say and what people are you talking about, it's not everyone that knows about our relationship,” Anna said.
I felt warmth spread through my heart when she said she loves me.
“ But it's only a matter of time before people know about it and I don't want you to get hurt," her mom said with concern in her voice, I didn't want to interrupt her but I think it was time I said something.
“ I'm not going to hurt your daughter,” I said with all the sincerity I could muster and it wasn't a lie, nothing would ever make me hurt the woman I love.
“ Maybe not you but the world, I don't want them saying shit about my daughter," her Mom said as she turned to me.
“ Then I'm going to make sure that doesn't happen, it's a promise," I said.
The room became quiet for a moment as her mother looked at me like she was scanning through me for something.
“ So you think having your secretary as your girlfriend is what you really want?”
“ Mom, we met even before I found out he was my boss," Anna said.
“ And how did you meet if I might ask?" Her mom asked as she turned her attention back to Anna. There's no way both of us would walk out of this room with our ears intact if we mistakenly told her it was all supposed to be a one night stand but fate played a fast one on us.
“ Mom, I'm an adult and I don't have to tell you everything that happens in my personal life,"
“ Until you get heartbroken and I have to worry about you all the time," her mom said with a sigh as she sat on the bed beside Anna.
“ Look Anna..." She stopped as she turned to me
“ Cole," I reminded her.
“ Cole, I'm not against your love or relationship, love happens in unexpected places and when we least expect it, so I'm not going to be that enemy but what I'm worried about is the rumors, I can't bear the thought of my daughter’s name getting tarnished when people hear about your relationship, so you both should tell people now so it doesn't become an opportunity for people to bad mouth you, please," she said as she squeezed Anna's hand affectionately.
" We're going to think this through Mom and then Cole and I would decide on what we really want to do,” Anna said and her Mom nodded before she turned to me and then once again she had that look like I was in trouble again.
" If you ever hurt my daughter like that bastard did, I'm going to send you to hell and I'm not joking,” it didn't look like she was.
“ I'm not going to hurt your daughter or break her heart, I'm going to only make her smile,” I said as I looked at Anna with a smile.
“ I promise to take care of her and never be the reason for her to cry," I said.
“ Young man, let's hope you never break this promise because I'm not going to be breaking just your head but every bone in your body," her mother said and I couldn't help but smile at her protectiveness towards her daughter.
“ Mom, stop threatening my boyfriend," Anna said and once again my heart swelled in happiness.
She's going to be getting a big reward.
“ I'm just saying. Don't you ever try to hide anything from me, I'm going to disown you, in fact both of you because I know you little sneaky rat knew about it but didn't tell me, hiding things from your mother,” I watched as Anna's Mom joked with her two daughters but there was just one thought on my mind.
Not to break my promise and hurt Anna.
I was going to keep it and not even my father can stop me.
